Using a sample of (225.3 +/- 2.8) x 10(6) J/psi decays collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, searches for invisible decays of eta and eta ' in J/psi -> phi eta and phi eta ' are performed. Decays of phi -> K+K- are used to tag the eta and eta ' decays. No signals above background are found for the invisible decays, and upper limits at the 90% confidence level are determined to be 2.6 x 10(-4) for the ratio B(eta -> invisible)/B(eta ->gamma gamma) and 2.4 x 10(-2) for B(eta '-> invisible)/B(eta '->gamma gamma). These limits may be used to constrain light dark matter particles or spin-1 U bosons. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.87.012009

Transnormal Functions and Focal Varieties on Finsler Manifolds

Yali Chen, Qun He

Summary: This paper investigates transnormal functions and their level sets and focal varieties on complete Finsler manifolds. It is proven that the focal varieties of a C-2 transnormal function are smooth submanifolds, and each regular level set is a tube over one of the focal varieties.

Peroxinredoxin 6 reduction accelerates cigarette smoke extract-induced senescence by regulating autophagy in BEAS-2B cells

Jinlong Luo, Xiaocen Wang, Tingting Wei, Ke Lang, Chen Bao, Dong Yang

Summary: Cigarette smoke (CS)-induced cellular senescence and inadequate autophagy are implicated in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Peroxiredoxin (PRDX) 6, a protein with antioxidant capacity, has been shown to activate autophagy and delay senescence in other diseases. This study investigated the involvement of PRDX6-regulated autophagy in CS extract (CSE)-induced senescence of BEAS-2B cells by silencing PRDX6 expression. Additionally, the GSE20257 dataset revealed lower levels of PRDX6, sirtuin (SIRT) 1, and SIRT6 mRNA, and higher levels of P62 and P16 mRNA in COPD patients compared to non-smokers. Insufficient autophagic clearance of damaged proteins may contribute to accelerated cell senescence in COPD. In conclusion, this study demonstrated a protective role for PRDX6 in COPD and suggested that reduced PRDX6 expression could accelerate senescence by impairing autophagy in CSE-treated BEAS-2B cells.

DNA replication initiation factor RECQ4 possesses a role in antagonizing DNA replication initiation

Xiaohua Xu, Chou-Wei Chang, Min Li, Kenneth Omabe, Nhung Le, Yi-Hsuan Chen, Feng Liang, Yilun Liu

Summary: Deletion of the conserved C-terminus of the Rothmund-Thomson syndrome helicase RECQ4 leads to highly tumorigenic effects. An interaction between the RECQ4 N-terminus and the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) is identified, which enhances DNA replication and inhibits replication inhibitors. However, the RECQ4 C-terminus blocks this function by binding to protein inhibitors of APC/C. Cancer-prone RECQ4 mutations accelerate DNA synthesis and contribute to multiple developmental diseases and tumorigenesis.

Barriers and enablers of pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviours in pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence: a qualitative analysis using the theoretical domains framework

Ping Xu, Ying Jin, Pingping Guo, Xuefen Xu, Xiaojuan Wang, Wei Zhang, Minna Mao, Suwen Feng

Summary: This study used the Theoretical Domain Framework to identify barriers and enablers of pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviors in pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence. Through face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 20 pregnant women, seven themes were summarized to explain the factors influencing these behaviors. The findings suggest the need for multiple interventions to support pelvic floor management in pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence, focusing on enhancing knowledge and skills in pelvic floor care and using appropriate behavior change techniques to provide a supportive environment.

Structure and Physical Properties of Conductive Bamboo Fiber Bundle Fabricated by Magnetron Sputtering

Wenqing Wang, Jiayao Li, Jiangtao Shi, Yue Jiao, Xinzhou Wang, Changlei Xia

Summary: The development of conductive bamboo fiber bundles provides a research basis for the development of conductive fibers in a natural renewable direction. The alkaline sodium sulfite method was used to remove lignin from bamboo to prepare the conductive bamboo fiber bundle. By coating a copper film on the bamboo fibers using DC magnetron sputtering, the most suitable preparation condition that combines cost and performance was found. The results showed improvements in the coverage of the copper film and a decrease in resistivity with increasing sputtering power and time.

Study on strength characteristics and thickening characteristics of classified-fine cemented backfill in gold mine

Xian-qing Wang, Wen Wan, Zhong-liang Yao, Ru-gao Gao, Zhen-xing Lu, Xiao-yu Tang, Bao-jie Fan

Summary: For some new mines, the utilization rate of unclassified tailings as backfill aggregate is unsatisfactory. With the progress of mineral processing technology, the tailings discharged by the concentrator become finer. Therefore, using fine-grained tailings as aggregate for cemented backfill will be the future development direction. This study investigates the feasibility of using -200 mesh fine particle tailings as aggregate in the Shaling gold mine. The results show that the utilization rate of tailings increases from 45.1% to 90.3% when using -200 mesh tailings as filling aggregate.

Overexpression of FoxM1 optimizes the therapeutic effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on acute respiratory distress syndrome

Yuling Luo, Shanhui Ge, Qingui Chen, Shan Lin, Wanmei He, Mian Zeng

Summary: This study explored whether overexpression of FoxM1 promotes the therapeutic effect of BMSCs on ARDS. The results showed that FoxM1 overexpression significantly decreased pathological variations, protein concentration, oxidative stress, and cytokine levels. Furthermore, FoxM1 enhanced the protective effect of BMSCs on endothelial cell injury through the activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin signaling pathway.

Numerical simulation of transient pipe flow with entrapped air and wet bed effects

Chunling Wang, Tibing Xu, Yin Wang, Jiajia Li, Chenhui Zhang

Summary: This study numerically investigates the evolution of transient pipe flow along the wet bed. The shear stress transport k-omega model and volume of fluid method are applied for simulation. Two key parameters, upstream head H and initial water depth h in the pipe, are examined and found to significantly affect the bottom stress. The analysis reveals that boundary layer separation and flow pattern lead to shear instability, and an empirical equation with average flow velocity is derived to estimate the overflow capacity of the pipe using just the upstream water level and wet bed depth.

A mathematical model for dehydrogenation of molten steel in the Vacuum degasser

Weifeng Zhang, Guanbo Wang, Yanling Zhang, Guoguang Cheng, Guolei Zhang

Summary: This paper presents a mathematical model of VD dehydrogenation, which predicts hydrogen removal during the VD vacuum refining process and investigates the effect of controllable parameters. The model considers the behavior of argon bubbles during their uplifting and identifies three sites where the dehydrogenation reaction occurs: the surface of the Ar bubbles, the bath surface of the molten steel, and the bulk steel. The model's calculated results agree with industrial production data. The model also examines the contribution of different reaction sites and the effects of vacuum pressure, argon flow rate, and initial hydrogen content on the dehydrogenation process.
