We use simple analytic considerations and a Monte Carlo calculation of nucleons in a box to argue that the use of Jastrow functions as short-range correlators in the commonly employed two-body cluster approximation causes significant errors in the matrix elements for double-beta decay. The Jastrow approach appears to agree with others, however, if many-body clusters are included. A careful treatment of the charge-changing analog of the nuclear pair density shows, in addition, that differences between the unitary correlation operator method and Brueckner methods for treating short-range correlations in double-beta decay are less significant than suggested by previous work.

Nuclear two point correlation functions on a quantum computer

Summary: The calculation of dynamic response functions is expected to benefit from rapidly developing quantum hardware resources and offers potential applications in analyzing real-time quantities of strongly correlated quantum systems. The calculation of response functions for fermionic systems at moderate momenta and energies is a promising early application due to nearly local relevant operators and the ability to resolve energies in moderately short real time.

Variational approaches to constructing the many-body nuclear ground state for quantum computing

I. Stetcu, A. Baroni, J. Carlson

Summary: We explore the preparation of specific nuclear states on gate-based quantum hardware using variational algorithms. Quantum computing can, in principle, solve large-scale nuclear systems with exponentially fewer resources than classical computing. We use the unitary coupled cluster approach to construct approximations of the ground-state vectors. However, the application on existing hardware is challenging due to the need for minimizing a large number of parameters and using a large number of entanglements.

Benchmark calculations of infinite neutron matter with realistic two- and three-nucleon potentials

Summary: In this study, we obtained the equation of state of infinite neutron matter using highly realistic Hamiltonians and benchmarked three independent many-body methods. The results show that these methods provide similar equations of state when specific nucleon-nucleon potentials and three-body forces are used. However, at high densities, one method shows significantly lower energy compared to the others. The study also highlights the possibility of unphysical results when certain parameters are used in the calculations.

Electron scattering on A=3 nuclei from quantum Monte Carlo based approaches

Summary: In this study, we perform calculations and comparisons on electron-nucleus scattering on 3He and 3H using different methods and compare them to experimental data. The results show that at sufficiently large values of momentum transfer, the Green's function Monte Carlo calculation agrees well with experimental data and two other methods. The inclusion of relativistic effects is crucial in explaining data at high momentum and energy transfer.

Summary: This study reveals a universal factorization of the many-body nuclear wave function at short distances, highlighting the embedding of short-distance correlation effects within two-body correlations. The ratio of contact coefficients between different nuclei shows little dependence on the nuclear interaction model.
