New physics in s → d semileptonic transitions: rare hyperon vs. kaon decays

Li-Sheng Geng, Jorge Martin Camalich, Rui-Xiang Shi

Summary: We investigate the potential of rare hyperon decays to probe the short distance structure in the s -> d nu(nu) over bar and s -> dl(+)l(-) transitions. We find that the BESIII measurements of the B-1 -> B-2 nu(nu) over bar decays would lead to constraints on new physics in the purely axial vector (d) over bar gamma(mu) gamma 5s current that are stronger than the present limits from their kaon siblings K ->pi pi nu(nu) over bar. On the other hand, hyperon decays into charged leptons are dominated by long-distance hadronic contributions, but angular observable such as the leptonic forward-backward asymmetry is sensitive to the interference between long- and short-distance contributions.

Strangeness S =-2 baryon-baryon interactions and femtoscopic correlation functions in covariant chiral effective field theory

Zhi-Wei Liu, Kai-Wen Li, Li-Sheng Geng

Summary: We study baryon-baryon interactions with strangeness S = -2 using leading order covariant chiral effective field theory. We determine the relevant low energy constants by fitting to the latest HAL QCD simulations, considering all coupled channels. Comparing our calculations with experimental data for lambda lambda and (Σ0Λ)-p correlation functions, we find good agreement which demonstrates consistency between theory, experiment, and lattice QCD simulations. We also predict sigma(+)sigma, sigma(+)lambda, and sigma(+)sigma(-) interactions and their momentum correlation functions.

Summary: Rare meson decays are valuable tools for investigating both heavy and light new physics, with the use of kaons being particularly advantageous due to their small decay widths and large datasets. Hyperon decay measurements also provide complementary information. This article summarizes the relevant phenomenological models and current status of searches in both kaon and hyperon decay channels. It identifies new search strategies for unexplored signatures and highlights the potential for significant advances in exploring light dark sectors with improved sensitivities from current and future experiments.

Molecular Nature of X(3872) in B0 → K0X(3872) and B+→ K+X(3872) Decays

Hao-Nan Wang, Li-Sheng Geng, Qian Wang, Ju-Jun Xie

Summary: We study the decays of B-0 -> (KX)-X-0 (3872) and B+ -> K+X(3872) using the X(3872) resonance coupled to the D (D) over bar* + c.c channel. Besides the short-distance interaction mechanism, we also consider the long-distance rescattering diagrams of D (D) over bar*. The difference in mass thresholds and the narrow width of X(3872) at the X(3872) mass lead to significant differences in the loop functions of D (D) over bar*(0) and D+ (D) over bar*-. Taking this into account, we naturally obtain a ratio of B[B-0 -> K-0 X(3872)]/B[B+ -> K+X (3872)] similar to 0.5. Based on this result, we evaluate the decay widths of B-s(0) -> eta(eta')X(3872). Future experimental measurements of these decays are expected to provide insight into the nature of the X(3872) resonance.

Cross-Channel Constraints on Resonant Antikaon-Nucleon Scattering

Jun-Xu Lu, Li-Sheng Geng, Michael Doering, Maxim Mai

Summary: Chiral perturbation theory and its unitarized versions have been instrumental in our understanding of low-energy strong interaction. In this study, the first global analysis of meson-baryon scattering up to one-loop order is presented. The results demonstrate that covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory, including unitarization for the negative strangeness sector, can accurately describe meson-baryon scattering data. This validates the validity of this important low-energy effective field theory of QCD.

Nuclear charge radii in Bayesian neural networks revisited

Xiao-Xu Dong, Rong An, Jun-Xu Lu, Li-Sheng Geng

Summary: In this study, a refined Bayesian neural network (BNN) based approach with six inputs, including proton number, mass number, and engineered features associated with various effects, is proposed to accurately describe nuclear charge radii. The new approach shows good performance in describing charge radii of atomic nuclei with A > 40 and Z > 20, with a standard root-mean-square deviation of 0.014 fm for the training and validation data. The predicted charge radii of proton-rich and neutron-rich calcium isotopes also agree well with the data, demonstrating the reliability of the BNN approach.

Summary: This study reports on a search for light dark matter through the cascading decay of η mesons produced by the collision of cosmic rays and Earth's atmosphere. A new framework is introduced to specifically address boosted dark matter, including a dedicated simulation of both elastic and quasielastic processes of Earth's attenuation effect on dark matter particles reaching the detector. No significant excess over background is observed in the PandaX-4T commissioning data with a 0.63 tonne · year exposure. The study also provides the first constraints on the interaction between light dark matter generated in the atmosphere and nuclei through a light scalar mediator.

One-proton emission from 148-151Lu in the DRHBc plus WKB approach

Yang Xiao, Si-Zhe Xu, Ru-You Zheng, Xiang-Xiang Sun, Li-Sheng Geng, Shi-Sheng Zhang

Summary: One-proton radioactivity in 149Lu has been studied using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approach and the proton-nucleus potential extracted from the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc). The results show that 149Lu is oblately deformed and the predicted half-life is consistent with experimental measurements. The study also checks the validity of the approach in describing other Lu isotopes and their isomeric states, with good agreement between predicted and experimental half-lives.

New insights into the pole parameters of the Λ(1380), the Λ(1405) and the Σ(1385)

D. Sadasivan, M. Mai, M. Doring, Ulf-G. Meissner, F. Amorim, J. Klucik, Jun-Xu Lu, Li-Sheng Geng

Summary: By extending the coupled-channel S- and P-wave next-to-leading order chiral-unitary approach, we have successfully incorporated the new data from the KLOE and AMADEUS experiments as well as the Lambda pi mass distribution of the Sigma(1385) into the strangeness S = -1 meson-baryon scattering. We have calculated the positions of the poles on the second Riemann sheet corresponding to the S(1385) pole and the Lambda(1380) and Lambda(1405) poles, as well as the couplings of these states to various channels. The inclusion of KLOE and AMADEUS data has improved the average precision for determining resonance positions and branching ratios by about 20%.

Production rates of Ds plus Ds- and DD? molecules in B decays

Jia-Ming Xie, Ming-Zhu Liu, Li-Sheng Geng

Summary: Motivated by the recent discovery of the charmonium X(3960) in B decays, the possible existence of two bound/virtual states below the D+s D-s and over bar DD mass thresholds has been reexamined. Using the effective Lagrangian approach and triangle diagrams, we calculate the production rates of B+ -> Xss over bar K+ and B+ -> Xqq over bar K+ in B decays. Our results show that the production yields are consistent with experimental data, suggesting that these bound states can be detected if they do exist.

Role of scalar mesons a0(980) and a0(1710) in the Ds plus → π0K+K0S decay

Xin Zhu, Hao-Nan Wang, De-Min Li, En Wang, Li-Sheng Geng, Ju-Jun Xie

Summary: Recently, the BESIII Collaboration observed the scalar meson a0(1710)+ in the K+K0S invariant mass spectrum in the D+s -> pi 0K+K0S decay. They performed a theoretical study of a0(1710)+ in the process D+s -> pi 0a0(1710)+-> pi 0K+K0S and considered the contributions of K* and a0(980). The study supported the molecular K* over bar K* nature of the scalar a0(1710) resonance, as the recent BESIII experimental measurements can be well reproduced.

Tian-Chen Wu, Li-Sheng Geng

Summary: This study explores the production mechanism of charm-strange states D-s0*(2317) and D-s1(2460), and finds that the molecular model can well explain their production cross-section ratios. In addition, we predict the production yield of the three-body bound state D(D) over barK, and find that it is within the reach of the ongoing Belle II experiment.
