The applications of the laser resonance ionization method in nuclear research are reviewed. Investigation of radioactive isotopes using resonance ionization techniques provides a valuable combination of high selectivity, efficiency and spectral resolution. The majority of radioactive ion beams produced at on-line isotope separator facilities profit from the selectivity and universal applicability of laser ion sources. Numerous ultra-sensitive and high-resolution techniques of laser spectroscopy based on resonance ionization of atoms have been developed for the study of rare and radioactive isotopes. A summary of ionization schemes applied to radioactive isotopes is given in table form.

Tunable spectral squeezers based on monolithically integrated diamond Raman resonators

E. Granados, G. Stoikos, D. T. Echarri, K. Chrysalidis, V. N. Fedosseev, C. Granados, V. Leask, B. A. Marsh, R. P. Mildren

Summary: This study reports on the generation and tuning of single-frequency laser light in a monolithic Fabry-Perot diamond Raman resonator in the visible spectral range. The linewidth of a multi-mode nanosecond pump laser was squeezed to a nearly Fourier-limited single axial mode Stokes pulse by adjusting the resonator temperature. The tuning range was over 20 GHz, enabling the production of Fourier-limited pulses in the 400-500 nm spectral range.

Summary: Plasma wakefield acceleration is a promising technology for reducing the size of particle accelerators, and its progress has been demonstrated in the AWAKE program at CERN. The AWAKE collaboration is planning to conduct Run 2 to showcase stable accelerating gradients, preserve electron bunch characteristics, and develop scalable plasma sources. This scheme is expected to provide electron beams for particle physics experiments.

Summary: Tunable single-frequency lasers are important tools for studying and utilizing the electronic structure of atoms. This study demonstrates the suitability of integrated diamond Raman lasers as a high-resolution spectroscopy tool. The device can produce tunable nanosecond pulses and efficiently funnel the broad spectrum of input lasers to hard-to-access wavelength ranges.

Summary: The study explores the propagation of ultrafast laser pulses in a rubidium vapor cell, observing absorption, confinement, and broadening behaviors at different energy levels. Experimental observations show qualitative agreement with computer simulations, confirming the validity of the propagation model. Results suggest that the model can effectively interpret phenomena related to self-focusing and channeling of laser pulses by saturable, resonant nonlinearity.
