Rational design of amphiphilic BODIPY-based photosensitizers for multimodal imaging-guided phototherapy

Summary: This study proposes a strategy of introducing hydrophilic chains and halogen atoms in boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) to form J-aggregate nano-micelles, enabling both imaging and multiple therapeutics. The study shows that the steric effects of the 3,5-position group of BODIPY can affect the degree of nanoparticle aggregation. It provides an emerging strategy for cancer therapy and a novel idea for the future development of new efficient photosensitizers.

Development of an auxiliary device for ultrasound-guided aspiration of pelvic cystic masses: a simulation study

Successful Ultrasound-Guided Methotrexate Intervention in the Treatment of Heterotopic Interstitial Pregnancy: A Case Report and Literature Review

The results showed that ultrasound-guided methotrexate injection successfully eliminated the interstitial gestational sac, leading to successful delivery of a healthy baby in all cases. Early treatment is crucial for ensuring the survival of intrauterine pregnancy.

Phototheranostics for NIR fluorescence image guided PDT/PTT with extended conjugation and enhanced TICT

Summary: Introducing donor and acceptor into conjugated system enhances the generation of ROS by increasing the intersystem crossing (ISC) rate. Twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state promotes the nonradiative transition and photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE). Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) core functionalized benzene (PDDP), thiophene (TDPP), triphenylamine-conjugated benzene (TPA-PDDP), and thiophene (TPA-TDPP) derivatives were designed and synthesized. The introduction of triphenylamine lowered the energy level and improved the ability to generate 1O2 (1O2 QY = 50%) of TPA-TDPP. In the aggregated state, thiophene, triphenylamine, and long alkyl chains promoted the twisting effect, enhancing the PCE of TPA-TDPP (38.7%). In vivo fluorescence imaging demonstrated the tumor-targeting capability and excellent synergistic photodynamic/photothermal therapy of TPA-TDPP NPs.

In vivo optical coherence tomography in assessment of suspicious facial lesions: A prospective study

Summary: This study used in vivo optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology to describe the morphologic features of normal and pathologic skin conditions. It found qualitative differences in OCT image features of skin with varying degrees of pathology, and between normal and pathological skin. In vivo OCT shows promise as a useful optical diagnostic technique in diagnosing skin pathologies, with impressive sensitivity and specificity based on this small sample size.

From Basic Mechanisms to Clinical Research: Photodynamic Therapy Applications in Head and Neck Malignancies and Vascular Anomalies

Recent studies have demonstrated the efficacy of photodynamic therapy compared to traditional treatments with minimal adverse effects.

Quality of life following photodynamic therapy for head and neck pathologies: An exploratory study

Summary: Healthcare related quality of life is defined as the impact one's health and well-being has on physical, mental, spiritual, and social functions. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is increasingly used for head and neck cancer treatment, with mTHPC-PDT showing improvement in patients' QoL. Pain was the main reported issue post-treatment, but significant improvements in various aspects of life were observed in the weeks following PDT.
