Summary: This study explores the interaction of LC3/GABARAP proteins with phospholipid monolayers and bilayers. It finds that cardiolipin is essential for the protein interaction with bilayers, while ceramide markedly increases binding. Confocal fluorescence microscopy experiments reveal the arrangement of ceramide in the phospholipid bilayers.

Summary: This study reveals that heat shock protein beta-1 (HSPB1) plays a crucial role in maintaining the redox state and antioxidant activity in cardiomyocytes. HSPB1 undergoes homo-oxidation in response to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which is dependent on the Cys137 residue. Cys137 residue not only protects cardiomyocytes against oxidative injury but also regulates HSPB1's oxidation, phosphorylation at Ser15, and distribution to insoluble cell components after H2O2 treatment.

Summary: This study investigates the binding mechanism of VDAC, the most abundant protein on the outer mitochondrial membrane, to HK and enhances its ability to prevent peripheral nerve demyelination by modifying peptides. The findings provide new insights into the interaction between VDAC and HK, potentially leading to the development of therapeutic compounds for demyelinating peripheral neuropathies.

Summary: In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with different oxygen functional groups were prepared and introduced into the negative active materials of lead-acid batteries. The results showed that MWCNTs with high quantities of carboxylic and carbonyl functional groups significantly improved the high-rate-partial-state-of-charge performance of the batteries, mainly by promoting the formation of ternary lead sulfate crystals and forming a unique structure.

Summary: This study focused on investigating the long-term clinical effect of incobotulinumtoxinA in 33 cervical dystonia patients who had experienced partial secondary therapy failure under previous long-term botulinum toxin treatment. Despite some patients showing an increase in neutralizing antibody titres, repeated treatment with low dose incobotulinumtoxinA over 48 weeks resulted in a beneficial clinical long-term effect, with improvements in symptoms and quality of life for the patients.

Summary: The molecular recognition of synthetic cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) to N-terminal Leu-containing tripeptides was investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, and tripeptides with high binding affinity were identified. The study found that CB[7] had a nanomolar level binding affinity to LGR, but changing the sequence order or increasing the sequence length significantly decreased the binding affinity. Substituting N-terminal Leu for Ile weakened the binding of CB[7] to tripeptides. Furthermore, it was predicted that placing R at the C-terminus resulted in a consistently high binding strength. This research provides insights for the rational design of peptides with high affinity to CB[7] in practical applications.

Summary: Recent evidence indicates that iron-sulfur clusters in DNA replicative proteins sense DNA-mediated charge transfer to regulate nuclear DNA replication. The presence of an ISC and a metal cofactor in the Dm mtDNA helicase was confirmed, with the NTD also playing a role in membrane binding. The NTD binds to liposomes mimicking phospholipid membranes through electrostatic interactions, with a higher specificity as cardiolipin content increases.

Summary: The previously unannotated protein TMEM241 is found to play a crucial role in cholesterol egress from lysosomes. It transports UDP-N-acetylglucosamine (UDP-GlcNAc) into the Golgi lumen, which is used for the modification of proteins like NPC2. Loss of TMEM241 leads to cholesterol accumulation in lysosomes due to impaired lysosomal targeting of NPC2.

Summary: In this study, the genetic factors controlling unstable fertility restoration in sweet peppers were investigated. The Rf(u) locus was mapped to a 398 kb genomic region on chromosome 6, which is syntenic to the PPR-like gene-rich region in tomato. Molecular markers co-segregating with Rf(u) were also developed, providing a potential tool for marker-assisted breeding of sweet peppers.

Summary: The 3D-reference interaction site model (3D-RISM) molecular solvation theory in combination with the Kovalenko-Hirata (KH) closure was used to investigate the liquid states of seven heterocyclic liquids and to test the performance of the theory in solvation free energy (SFE) calculations. The computed results were compared with molecular dynamics simulations and experimental data, showing good agreement in most cases.

Summary: This study used different detergents to extract proteins from the surface of wild Vibrio cholerae and evaluate their immunogenic potential. Higher yields of protein and lipopolysaccharides were obtained with CHAPS and n-OG detergents at concentrations between 5% and 15%. Proteoliposomes and cochleates were formed, maintaining their immunogenicity, showing promise for a new anticholera vaccine formulation.

Summary: Four new palladium complexes with cyclometallated pinane ligand and l-amino acids as coligands were synthesized and characterized. The compounds were analyzed using NMR, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The cytotoxic effect of these complexes against tumor-derived cell lines was investigated, and it was found that the destruction of mitochondria may be responsible for their antitumor activity. Some structure-activity correlations were also observed.
