Summary: This network meta-analysis indicates that nifedipine should be recommended as a strategy for blood pressure management in pregnant women with severe hypertension. However, the conventional pharmaceuticals, labetalol and hydralazine, showed limited efficacy, and the instability of hydralazine reducing blood pressure and the high benefit of labetalol with high dosages intakes should be of concern to clinicians.

Summary: In 1997, Soergel et al published the first set of normative values for ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in children, which is now accepted as the standard method to confirm the diagnosis of hypertension in children. Despite significant progress in the field of pediatric ABPM, many important questions remain unanswered, such as how to define ambulatory hypertension in children.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of a therapeutic concordance approach on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in patients with therapy-resistant hypertension (TRH). The results show that the therapeutic concordance approach significantly reduces the occurrence of ADRs in TRH patients.

Summary: Current evidence is insufficient to support different hypertension treatment targets in older adults. This study evaluated whether frailty modifies the association between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and 8-year all-cause mortality in community-dwelling older adults. The results suggest that frailty may have a protective effect on all-cause mortality in frail older adults with respect to elevated SBP.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence, correlates, and prognosis of hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD) in a community-based study. The findings showed that the prevalence of HMOD varied across different blood pressure guidelines and that the presence of HMOD increased the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Summary: This study investigates the accuracy and reliability of smartwatch-based blood pressure measurement. The results show that the smartwatch tends to overestimate low blood pressure and underestimate high blood pressure. Although the accuracy of smartwatch-based blood pressure measurement is low, more research is needed to validate the reliability of wearable devices and demonstrate new possibilities for non-invasive, high-frequency blood pressure monitoring.

Summary: In this study, office systolic blood pressure showed weak association with stroke, central blood pressure was not significantly associated with stroke, but all ambulatory blood pressure variables (systolic and diastolic) were significantly linked to stroke. Additionally, ambulatory diastolic blood pressure was found to be a stronger predictor of stroke compared to ambulatory systolic blood pressure.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of oscillometric measurement artefacts on ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). The results showed that these artefacts can lead to incorrect classification of blood pressure values, and excluding them can improve the accuracy of monitoring.

Summary: The study found that in middle-aged individuals without diagnosed hypertension, a simplified blood pressure measurement approach using the second blood pressure measurement only when the first blood pressure is at least 130/80 could reduce the total number of measurements by over 50%, accurately identify hypertension with limited misclassification (2-8%), and reasonably predict cardiovascular disease risks.

Summary: There is a good correlation between ABPM and OBPM in patients with newly diagnosed, controlled, or uncontrolled hypertension, with notable variation in diastolic BP readings. Summary: The study investigated the differences in blood pressure values when measured with or without a doctor present. The results showed that there were significant increases in blood pressure and sympathetic nerve traffic when BP was measured in the presence of a doctor, while there were modest decreases in these values during unattended BP measurement. This suggests that the presence of a doctor during BP measurement may affect cardiovascular and neural responses.

Summary: This scoping review summarized the processes and activities implemented by community and hospital-based pharmacists during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that pharmacists in both community and hospital pharmacies performed pharmaceutical care, efficient service management, information and education, psychological support, pharmacovigilance, and telepharmacy. Community pharmacies focused on detecting and referring COVID-19 patients, testing and immunization, home care recommendations, and drug indications, while hospital pharmacies were involved in drug treatment research, drug evaluation, guidelines development, and managing off-label drugs.
