Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are common complications of diabetes, with diabetic cardiomyopathy being a major cause of death in diabetes. Research has found that hydrogen sulfide plays a critical role in diabetic cardiomyopathy and has protective effects in conditions such as myocardial infarction and heart failure under diabetic conditions. Studies have identified multiple molecular mechanisms responsible for H2S's protective effects against diabetes-induced cardiac injury.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of gaseous signaling molecules, ethylene, nitric oxide, and hydrogen sulfide, on high temperature stress tolerance in rice. The findings suggest that these molecules can enhance thermo-tolerance and protect photosynthesis in rice, with ethylene showing the most significant effect.

Summary: This study evaluated the importance of hydrogen sulfide (NaHS) and nitric oxide (SNP) in the antioxidant systems of rice seedlings under Cr(III) stress. The results showed that NaHS and SNP effectively alleviated the toxic effects of Cr(III) by activating different antioxidants. NaHS had a stronger regulatory effect on non-enzymatic and enzymatic antioxidants compared to SNP.

Summary: A library of N-thiocarboxyanhydrides (NTAs) derived from natural amino acids with benign byproducts and controlled H2S-release kinetics was reported. Minimal acute in vitro toxicity was observed in multiple cell lines, while longer-term toxicity in cancer cells was observed, with slow-releasing donors exhibiting the greatest cytotoxic effects.

Summary: The study evaluated the impact of different doses of metformin on NO production in subjects with pre-diabetes, finding that metformin did not increase NO production regardless of the dose. This is the first study on in vivo release of NO in humans with different metformin doses in patients with pre-diabetes.

Summary: Nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are now recognized as potent gaseous messenger molecules that rapidly transduce cellular signals and regulate various physiological functions. They often work synergistically and competitively to modulate each other's activity through chemical reactions and modifications to protein targets. In addition to their canonical modes of action, increasing evidence has shown that they also share the signaling mechanism of epigenetic regulation.

Summary: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is still the main cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetes patients. Gasotransmitters, including nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S), play a vital role in the development and progression of DN. Aberrant levels of gasotransmitters have been observed in patients with diabetes, and gasotransmitter donors show potential in ameliorating diabetic renal dysfunction. This review provides an overview of the physiological relevance of gasotransmitters and their interaction with other factors in the severity modulation of DN, highlighting the possible therapeutic interventions.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the changes in plasma levels of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), nitric oxide (NO), and related metabolites during pregnancy progression. The results showed significant decreases in plasma levels of NO and thiocyanate (SCN-) at 25-28 weeks and 28-32 weeks gestation, while plasma H2S levels significantly decreased at 28-32 weeks gestation. Methanethiol (CH3SH) levels did not show significant differences. These findings are important for understanding the role of these gasotransmitters in normal and pathological progression of pregnancy.

Summary: Salt stress severely limits crop productivity globally, and its effects are worsened by climate change. Plant priming, using specific chemical agents, has shown promise in enhancing plant tolerance to salt stress. This review summarizes the current knowledge on various molecules/compounds that can potentially enhance the salinity tolerance of crop plants.

Summary: This study focused on the impact of different diets consumed by dams on the levels of zinc and magnesium in the teeth of their offspring rats. It was found that zinc levels did not significantly differ among different diet groups, but a high-fat diet led to higher levels of magnesium in the teeth of the offspring rats.
