Summary: Nontubal ectopic pregnancies occur when the embryo implants outside the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. These pregnancies can occur in various sites, including the ovary, cervix, abdominal cavity, interstitial portion of the fallopian tube, and cesarean scar. Diagnosis of nontubal ectopic pregnancies is challenging due to nonspecific signs and symptoms, leading to delayed treatment and increased morbidity. Surgical management is the mainstay of treatment, but there is growing evidence supporting the use of medical or combined medical and surgical approaches for favorable outcomes.

Summary: The safety of drug use during pregnancy is an important concern in China, where research on medication use and birth defects (BDs) is scarce. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Hunan province to examine medication use during pregnancy and the occurrence of BDs. The results highlight the potential risks associated with drug use during pregnancy and suggest that pregnant women should opt for safer drugs with fewer types and lower doses.

Summary: The study focused on the use of IL-1 inhibitors/colchicine in pregnant women and did not find any disproportional reporting for inflammasome-targeted drugs. TNF alpha inhibitors showed safety during pregnancy, with the exception of labor complications. Limited data suggests caution when considering routine use of these agents in pregnancy.

Summary: This study explores the association between gestational FT3 and TT3 levels and adverse obstetric outcomes. The findings suggest that FT3 and TT3 levels have different associations with various adverse obstetric outcomes, with high TT3 associated with an increased risk of gestational hypertension and low TT3 associated with a higher risk of very preterm birth.

Summary: Although cornual pregnancy is rare, it has a higher mortality rate compared to ectopic pregnancy overall. Laparoscopy offers a safer approach for its management, and the Vasopressin Injection Purse-String Ectopic Resection technique is an effective strategy in reducing blood loss and minimizing the risk of conversion to laparotomy.

Summary: Ectopic pregnancy is a common health condition affecting 1 in 100 women. Methotrexate (MTX) and expectant management are both viable treatment options for women with mild symptoms and low hCG levels. A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials showed no statistically significant difference in treatment efficacy between MTX and expectant management, suggesting that initial expectant management may be preferred due to fewer side-effects.

Summary: Preterm birth can be caused by various factors including maternal age, health, previous obstetric history, and social factors. A cross-sectional study of 495 mother-infant pairs was conducted to identify contributing factors to preterm birth. The study found that living in rural areas, lower education level, and running one's own business were associated with higher rates of preterm birth. Additionally, pregestational diabetes mellitus and older age at the time of giving birth were also identified as risk factors.

Summary: Poor oral health greatly impacts the overall health and well-being of older adults, and addressing this problem has remained unresolved. This article proposes the combination of ecosocial theory and intersectionality to guide our understanding of oral health and aging. Ecosocial theory examines the relationship between biological processes and social, historical, and political contexts, while intersectionality explores how social identities intersect to influence privilege or discrimination. Understanding these complexities offers an opportunity to address oral health inequities in research, education, and practice.

Summary: This study investigated hospitalization trends and factors influencing hospitalizations for five rare craniofacial anomalies (CFAs). The findings revealed that individuals with rare CFAs had higher rates of hospitalization during childhood and adolescence compared to those without CFAs. These individuals also had a higher number of potentially preventable hospitalizations before the age of 18. Respiratory infections, ear infections, and oral health-related conditions were the main contributors to noncraniofacial admissions. The study also identified a greater incidence of noncraniofacial related hospitalizations among Indigenous children, infants with intrauterine growth restrictions, and families with high socioeconomic disadvantage. These population-level findings can inform the development of new preventive strategies and early disease management approaches aimed at reducing preventable hospitalizations.

Summary: This study aims to interpretively synthesize qualitative research on family factors related to preschool children's oral health in order to identify social practices. The researchers will search multiple databases for English-language qualitative studies using relevant key terms, and analyze the reported factors influencing oral health using thematic analysis from the perspective of social practice theory. Findings will be disseminated through professional networks, conference presentations, and submission to a peer-reviewed journal.

Summary: Poor oral health is common among older adults, who are less likely to seek dental care and more likely to have dental problems. This is worsened by the fact that older adults often have complex dental restorations. Some older adults experience rapid deterioration in their oral health. While more evidence is needed, current research suggests that addressing social determinants of health may alleviate this problem. This paper aims to review the social determinants of rapid oral health deterioration in older adults.

Summary: Inequitable social environments highlight the need for changes in social structure to promote fairer social relations and behavior. Historical racism against Aboriginal people in Australia has created lasting disadvantages, including poor oral health outcomes. Structural factors, such as limited access to dental services, high costs, and discrimination, hinder many Aboriginal families from making optimal oral health decisions. Shifting the focus onto powerful institutions and governing bodies exposes their role in undermining health outcomes, calling for changes in the social structure to improve equality. This approach challenges the discourse that places Aboriginal people as the problem and instead reveals how structural factors can compromise rather than enhance health outcomes.

Summary: Improving oral health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is a priority in Australia. However, providing dental care to remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley region is challenging due to the low population density and high running costs. The Kimberley Dental Team (KDT), a volunteer-led organization, was established to bridge this gap and extend dental care to areas of unmet need. This paper describes the KDT model, including its development, resources, and operational factors.

Summary: Understanding hospital service use among children with craniosynostosis is important for improving services and outcomes. This study examined the trends and factors influencing hospitalizations for craniosynostosis in Western Australia. The findings showed an increase in hospitalizations over time but a slight decrease in hospital stay length. Perinatal conditions, feeding difficulties, respiratory infections, and other factors were found to contribute to non-craniosynostosis-related admissions.
