A Bayesian dose-finding design for drug combination clinical trials based on the logistic model

In early phase dose-finding cancer studies, the objective is to determine the maximum tolerated dose, defined as the highest dose with an acceptable dose-limiting toxicity rate. Finding this dose for drug-combination trials is complicated because of drug-drug interactions, and many trial designs have been proposed to address this issue. These designs rely on complicated statistical models that typically are not familiar to clinicians, and are rarely used in practice. The aim of this paper is to propose a Bayesian dose-finding design for drug combination trials based on standard logistic regression. Under the proposed design, we continuously update the posterior estimates of the model parameters to make the decisions of dose assignment and early stopping. Simulation studies show that the proposed design is competitive and outperforms some existing designs. We also extend our design to handle delayed toxicities. Facilitation and interference effects of the multisensory context on learning: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: The impact of a multisensory environment on learning is still a subject of debate. This systematic review and meta-analysis found that a multisensory context enhances task performance under congruent conditions but hinders it under incongruent conditions. The effect is influenced by the modality of the target stimulus and the age of participants, and is limited for familiar multimodal associations under incongruent conditions. Interestingly, interference is found from auditory distractors to visual targets in children but not in adults, and for familiar associations but not unfamiliar ones.

Controllable Synthesis of PtIrCu Ternary Alloy Ultrathin Nanowires for Enhanced Ethanol Electrooxidation

Summary: By applying rational design and controllable synthesis, PtIrCu ternary alloy ultrathin nanowires with high-density planar defects were successfully synthesized, which showed excellent electrocatalytic ethanol oxidation performance. Density functional theory calculations demonstrated that replacing Cu atoms with Ir atoms increased the vacancy formation energy of Pt atoms, hindering the activation of Pt atoms by H2 and the formation of a one-dimensional structure. The optimized Pt43Ir32Cu25 ultrathin nanowires achieved remarkable electrooxidation activity for ethanol, significantly reducing the onset potential and improving CO anti-poisoning ability, attributed to the synergistic effect of the alloy and the nanowire structure with high-density planar defects.

Late-Stage Modification of Drugs via Alkene Formal Insertion into Benzylic C-F Bond

Summary: This study presents a photocatalytic method for late-stage modification of trifluoromethyl aromatic drugs by selectively inserting abundant alkene feedstocks into benzylic C-F bonds under mild conditions. The transformation shows excellent functional group tolerance and is believed to proceed through a radical-polar crossover pathway. It also offers an alternative strategy for difunctionalization of alkenes by quenching the carbocation intermediate with nucleophiles other than external fluoride.

Summary: The study identified USP13 as an essential deubiquitinase that stabilizes ATG5 and promotes autophagy and IM resistance in GIST cells. PAK1 kinase was found to be involved in this process, enhancing the interaction between ATG5 and USP13. The researchers also discovered that N-6-methyladenosine methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) mediated the stabilization of USP13 mRNA through IGF2BP2, and an inhibitor of USP13 was shown to enhance the efficacy of IM treatment in GIST cell-derived xenograft models.

A novel network-based controller design for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems with multiple faults and full state constraints

Summary: This paper studies the control issue of adaptive fault-tolerant for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems with multiple faults and full state constraints. By constructing a logarithmic barrier Lyapunov functions (BLFs) and integrating multi-dimensional Taylor network (MTN) technology into the backstepping process, a new adaptive MTN-based fault-tolerant controller is designed. The proposed control strategy considers multiple faults and ensures that all signals in the closed-loop system are semi-global ultimately uniformly bounded (SGUUB) in probability, and all states of the system are constrained within the given boundary. Three simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed control strategy.

Vulnerability-Aware Task Scheduling for Edge Intelligence Empowered Trajectory Analysis in Intelligent Transportation Systems

Summary: To meet the requirements of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on ultra-delay service response, task scheduling for trajectory analysis is being shifted from the data center to the network edge of ITS. This decentralized paradigm enables the involvement of edge intelligence entities (EIEs) and allows traditional analysis tasks to be open to ITS users. However, assigning tasks for different users with differentiated security demands and privacy protection requires identifying and assessing the vulnerability of EIEs. This paper proposes a vulnerability-aware task scheduling mechanism that integrates vulnerability assessment and access control to enhance privacy protection and improve task scheduling efficiency.

Aging microenvironment and antitumor immunity for geriatric oncology: the landscape and future implications

Summary: The tumor microenvironment is a complex and unclear field, especially in elderly patients. Cellular senescence, characterized by stable arrest of the cell cycle and major changes in cell morphology and physiology, leads to consistent arrest of tumor cells and remodeling of the tumor-immune microenvironment. The senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), consisting of pleiotropic cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and proteinases, plays a role in promoting antitumor immunity while also increasing immunosuppressive cell infiltration, contributing to TIME suppression.

Summary: In this study, we searched for an axion-like particle (ALP) a in the process psi (3686) -> pi+pi-J/psi, J/psi -> gamma a, a -> gamma gamma. We analyzed a data sample of (2.71 + 0.01) x 10^9 psi (3686) events collected by the BESIII detector. No significant ALP signal was observed, and upper limits were set on the branching fraction of J/psi -> gamma a and the ALP-photon coupling constant ga gamma gamma at 95% confidence level. The constraints on the ALP-photon coupling are the most stringent to date for the mass range of 0.165 < ma < 1.468 GeV/c2.

Synthesis of bio-based poly(ester-ether) elastomers from 2,5-furandicar- boxylic acid (FDCA) with excellent thermo-mechanical properties

Summary: Poly(1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene furandicarboxylate) (PCF), a novel polyester, was used as a promising hard segment to develop new bio-based thermoplastic poly(ether-ester) elastomer (TPEE). Multiblock TPEEs based on PCF, with different lengths of soft segments poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG), were synthesized and their microphase structure and thermodynamic properties were investigated. The results showed that increasing the length of PTMG promoted the microphase separation of the copolymers, leading to excellent comprehensive properties.

Automatic segmentation of vestibular schwannomas from T1-weighted MRI with a deep neural network

Summary: Porous organic polymers (POPs) are porous materials composed of light elements such as C, H, N, and O. Their benign characters, including large surface area, good physical and chemical stability, well-defined chemical composition, wide ranges of monomer selection, and strong designability, have made POPs one of the frontiers in materials research. In this review, we discussed the design and synthesis of various POP materials that mainly led by Chinese scientists, and sorted out their main applications in adsorption, separation, catalysis, and electrochemistry fields.

Pickering emulsion gel stabilized by pea protein nanoparticle induced by heat-assisted pH-shifting for curcumin delivery

Summary: This study introduces a heat-assisted pH-shifting (HP) method to prepare pea protein nanoparticles (PNPs) for stabilizing oil-in-water Pickering emulsion gel. The results show that increasing the pH-shifting temperature leads to changes in the structure and interfacial properties of PNPs, and the resulting emulsion gel exhibits improved stability and bioaccessibility.

The shape of the grating affects the peak response wavelength. In this study, a n-type QWIP focal plane array (FPA) was fabricated and tested, and infrared images were obtained based on the FPA.
