Fresh-frozen European guelder berry (Viburnum opulus L.) fruits collected in the Tambov, Moscow, and Tver Provinces were studied. The total contents and profiles of biologically active substances (BAS) in European guelder berry fruits were studied, including anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, flavonones, diydroxycinnamic acids, iridoids, organic acids, and carbohydrates; antiradical activity in the in vitro DPPH test was also studied. These data on specific minor BAS can be used for standardization in assessments of the potential activity of drugs and biologically active food additives based on European guelder berry fruits.

Summary: A high-performance thin-layer chromatography method coupled with microchemical derivatization and bioassay was used for bioanalytical profiling of selected marigold plant extracts. Different extracts showed variations in antioxidant activity and alpha-amylase inhibition, and the main components responsible for these activities were identified through detailed analysis.

Planning and Evaluation of Bioequivalence Studies of Drugs with Nonlinear Pharmacokinetics

Summary: A bioequivalence (BE) study is crucial for the registration of oral generic drugs, with the planning influenced by factors such as the linearity of pharmacokinetics. Regulatory requirements for drugs with non-linear pharmacokinetics, like atazanavir and valaciclovir, must be considered in planning BE studies. Differences in tested drug dosages and number of tests performed were found in analysis of protocols and reports of BE studies, highlighting the importance of taking into account all characteristics of the active substance for BE studies of drugs with non-linear pharmacokinetics.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the qualitative and quantitative composition of biologically active substances in the fresh fruits of five different varieties of black chokeberry. Samples were obtained from the Michurin Federal Scientific Center in the Tambov region of Russia. Using modern chemical-analytical methods, the content and profiles of various compounds were determined, including anthocyanin pigments, proanthocyanidins, flavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, organic acids, monosaccharides, disaccharides, and sorbitol. The most promising varieties in terms of bioactive substance content were identified based on the results.
