Summary: This study investigated the degrading and eliminating effects of UVA and UVC irradiation in combination with titanium dioxide P25 on imidacloprid. The identification and monitoring of imidacloprid and its degradation intermediates were achieved using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry. The study also assessed the ecotoxicity of the identified compounds through quantitative structure-activity relationship analysis and ranked the hazard potential based on ecotoxicity equivalents. The time-dependent ecotoxicity equivalents profile proved suitable for estimating the irradiation time required to eliminate ecotoxicity.

Summary: This study investigates the chemical properties of PAW produced by a dielectric barrier discharge driven by nanosecond voltage pulses, focusing on the production and consumption of reactive oxygen/nitrogen species. It also examines the effects of applied voltage and gap distance on RONS, showing that gaseous RONS are more sensitive to the gap distance while aqueous RONS are more sensitive to voltage amplitude. The results suggest the possibility of independently regulating gaseous and aqueous chemistry.

Summary: We have synthesized hydroxyl-radical (OH) responsive fluorescent probes using the 3,5-dihydroxybenzyl (DHB) functionality. In the presence of OH radicals, Umb-DHB and Res-DHB showed significant increases in fluorescence emission intensities at 460 nm and 585 nm respectively. Incubating Res-DHB in HeLa cells followed by therapeutic ultrasound resulted in a significant increase in fluorescence emission intensity, allowing the monitoring of ultrasound-induced OH production in live cells.

Summary: Four undescribed compounds were isolated from Elephantopus scaber L., including one germacrane-type sesquiterpene lactone (1), alkaloid (2), and two neolignans (3-4). Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated through various analytic methods. Compound 2 showed significant inhibitory activity against tyrosinase. Molecular docking was performed to study the interaction between compound 2 and tyrosinase.

Summary: This study aimed to scale up and ensure the safety of alpha-cyclodextrin nanosponges (alpha-CD-NS) for use as greener ethylene scavengers. By using solvent-free synthesis and optimizing washing in water, alpha-CD-NS showed the best ethylene scavenging activity, opening doors for safer, innovative, and eco-friendly ethylene removal active packaging.

Summary: Intracellular peroxynitrite anions (ONOO-) and micro-environments (such as viscosity and polarity) have significant effects on redox homeostasis, diffusion, transportation, and signal transduction in living cells. A multifunctional near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, MQA-P, has been developed for simultaneous detection of ONOO-, viscosity, and polarity within mitochondria, providing a sensitive and reliable method for tracking ferroptosis-related pathological processes and cancer diagnosis. The concurrent use of ONOO-, viscosity, and polarity has been successfully achieved in both cell/tissue levels and tumor mice models, showing great potential in preclinical research, medical diagnosis, and imaging-guided surgery.

Summary: In this study, a novel nonoxidative strategy was proposed and successfully implemented to construct fluorescent biosensors for peroxynitrite detection in immune-stimulated phagocytes. The biosensors exhibited remarkable detection sensitivity, reaction selectivity, and spectral photostability, enabling accurate visualization of endogenous peroxynitrite levels in immune responses. Through visualization of peroxynitrite level variations, the biosensors provided a promising tool for early tumor diagnosis and evaluation of tumor suppression in the immune response process without disrupting ROS signaling transduction functions.

Summary: This study sequenced and compared the chloroplast genomes of 16 species within the subgenus Seriphidium, revealing genetic consistency and variation in the subgenus. It also identified repetitive sequences and highly variable loci, and found inconsistencies between the molecular phylogeny and traditional taxonomy of subgenus Seriphidium. The whole chloroplast genomes can serve as molecular markers to infer interspecific relationships in this taxon.

Summary: Efforts have been made to study the use of oil palm empty fruit bunch and sodium alginate in the production of biodegradable pots. This study investigated the physical, mechanical, structural, and morphological properties of these pots. The results showed that increasing the sodium alginate content improved the moisture content, specific gravity, water absorption, ultimate tensile strength, and elongation at break of the pots. The produced biodegradable pots exhibited adequate functional properties, but further research is needed for their field applicability.
