Summary: This experiment investigated the effects of chitosan-oligosaccharides (COS) supplementation on laying hens' immune response, hematological characteristics, blood biochemical parameters, and histological status. The results showed that COS supplementation significantly increased the serum concentration of immunoglobulins, avian influenza, and Newcastle disease antibodies. The optimal dosage for enhancing immune response was 0.2 g/kg of diet. Moreover, COS supplementation also improved hematological parameters and histological examination of the small intestine, isthmus, and testis.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of soursop flower extracts (SFE) in limiting palm olein oxidation during the production of plantain chips, and examined the effects of SFE-enriched fried palm olein on certain biochemical and hematological parameters in rats. The results showed that SFE could effectively stabilize the palm olein, with comparable levels of enzymes and cholesterol to the control group. Rats fed with SFE-enriched fried olein also had lower white blood cell count and mean corpuscular volume compared to those fed with olein without additives. These extracts are recommended as natural antioxidants for palm olein stabilization.

Summary: Oral mucositis is a serious problem for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Currently available mucosal protectants have poor efficacy due to retention issues, lack of lubrication, biodegradability problems, and inability to manage secondary complications. Chitosan, with its beneficial biomedical properties, including anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial abilities, as well as its capability to scavenge free radicals, is a promising material for treating oral mucositis. This article summarizes the key biological properties of chitosan and its derivatives for the treatment of oral mucositis, showing that chitosan has superior mucosal protective properties when used alone or as a drug delivery system.
