Summary: Bleeding on probing (BOP) is an indispensable diagnostic tool for evaluating periodontal disease, but its role in peri-implant disease is more complex. The confusion in interpretation is due to differences in how BOP originates and is used in implants. A comprehensive bleeding index and other parameters should be used together for diagnosing peri-implant diseases accurately.

Summary: A growing body of work suggests that epigenetic dysregulation is involved in the pathophysiology of endometriosis and female infertility. This study focuses on the chromatin remodeling complex subunit ARID1A and its role in maintaining normal uterine function. The researchers found that ARID1A is decreased in infertile women with endometriosis and hypothesized that it is involved in critical operations in the endometrial epithelium necessary for fertility. Through RNA-sequencing analysis on pre-implantation uteri from mice, they discovered alterations in immune-related gene expression resulting from loss of epithelial ARID1A. These findings demonstrate the importance of endometrial epithelial ARID1A in suppressing inflammation and maintaining uterine immune homeostasis for successful pregnancy and gynecological health.

Summary: The study evaluated the reliability of 1-year mortality outcomes in lung transplantation and compared statistical methods for program performance evaluation. Reliability adjustment yielded more conservative measures of center performance and fewer outliers compared with current bayesian methods.

Summary: The reliability of 1-year mortality in lung transplantation is low, while the 5-year survival estimates may be more reliable at lower case volumes. Reliability adjustment yields more conservative measures of center performance and identifies fewer outliers compared to current bayesian methods.

Summary: Identifying reliable biological indicators is important for assessing human impacts on biodiversity. This study investigates the effects of iron ore mining tailings on marine fishes and finds that body condition is not an appropriate indicator of the impact. The study suggests that nutrient provisioning from continental drainage may compensate for the deleterious effects of mining pollution.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics, origin, and roles of uterine luminal fluid-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) in porcine conceptus implantation. The EVs were found to mainly originate from endometrial epithelial cells, with an increase in concentration starting from day 12 of pregnancy. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that the miRNAs in these EVs potentially regulate EV transportation or conceptus implantation, providing important insights for future translational studies on porcine EVs.

Summary: This study explored the distinction between morules and squamous differentiation (SD) in endometrial endometrioid carcinoma (EEC) and atypical hyperplasia/endometrioid intraepithelial neoplasia (AH/EIN), as well as their association with CTNNB1 mutations. The findings demonstrated that morules and glandular beta-catenin nuclear staining were strongly associated in AH/EIN and EEC, while there was no association between morules and glandular PAX2 or PTEN aberrant expression, or between SD and aberrant expression of beta-catenin, PAX2 or PTEN. CTNNB1 mutations were identified in all morule-containing cases. This distinction is clinically relevant and should be included in diagnostic reports.

Summary: The research reveals the important role of ARID1A in the endometrial epithelium, supporting early pregnancy establishment through the maintenance of gland function. Lack of ARID1A in endometrial epithelium leads to defects in implantation, decidualization, and endometrial receptivity, possibly through disruption of the LIF-STAT3-EGR1 pathway.

Summary: Uterine fibroids are common benign tumors in women, often causing abnormal uterine bleeding. They are also associated with infertility, particularly if the fibroids protrude into the uterine cavity. Hormonal therapy and hysterectomy are not suitable for women who desire to conceive. This study evaluated endometrial angiogenesis in women with fibroids and explored the influence of pharmaceutical therapies. Results showed aberrant angiogenesis in patients with fibroids, and various treatments, including gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist, ulipristal acetate, and continuous oral contraception pills, reduced angiogenic parameters. Additionally, altered angiogenic pathways were found in infertile patients with fibroids. These findings could be valuable for developing new therapeutic targets for fibroid-related symptoms.

Summary: Pregnancy induces changes in the transcriptome of the bovine endometrium, but cows with postpartum bacterial infection of the uterus have lower chances of pregnancy even after the disease is resolved. Uterine bacterial infection alters the endometrial transcriptomic signature of pregnancy after the resolution of disease.
