Summary: Twelve crude oil blends were analyzed through TBP distillation and density tests. Four blends followed the additive blending rule, while the other eight showed deviations from the estimated values. Statistical correlations were found between the TBP yields of light and heavy naphtha, as well as vacuum residue, with the molar excess volume of the blends.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) concentration on the stability of crude oil-mineral water interfacial film. By constructing different simulation systems and comparing with experimental results, it is found that the number of SDBS molecules per unit area of the film increases with concentration, leading to increased film thickness and interface formation energy. In addition, inorganic ions weaken the performance of SDBS and detrimentally affect the structural strength and stability of interfacial films.

Summary: We enriched bacterial consortia from oilfield samples and found that they have potential for bio-catalytic upgrading of heavy crude oil. Treatment with one bacterial consortium resulted in an increase in saturates fraction, a decrease in aromatics fraction, a reduction in asphaltene content, and an increase in resins. The biotreated oil also showed better recovery of fractions compared to the non-treated oil. The bacterial consortia composition varied with the source and changed over time, with certain bacteria identified as key players in the bioupgrading process.

Summary: This work proposes a methodology to predict the interfacial tension of water/crude oils by modeling the composition of crude oil samples using a combined approach of experimental characterization, surrogate molecular representation, and mesoscopic simulations like dissipative particle dynamics (DPD). The study analyzes the influence of different variables on the models, proposes surrogates based on building units with different functional groups, and applies a thermodynamically consistent methodology to obtain the DPD interaction parameters of different chemical building units. The DPD simulations provide predictive values of the interfacial tension in good quantitative agreement with experimental data.

Summary: A series of novel carotenoid-derived non-thiadiamondoids cage organic sulfur compounds (OSCs) were identified from crude oil. Non-polar sulfur compounds were isolated using the methylation/demethylation method and characterized using FT-ICR MS and GC-MS. The cage OSCs were tentatively identified as 2-thiatricyclo[4.4.0.0<3.8>]decanes. These novel OSCs were found to be generated by biological sulfate reduction, providing new clues for the preservation of hydrocarbons in geological environments through sulfurization. The cage OSCs have the potential to be biomarkers for studying sedimentary environments.
