Summary: This pictorial essay describes the ultrasonographic and clinical findings of patients with small testes due to various causes, including Klinefelter syndrome, testicular torsion, mumps orchitis, inguinal hernia, cryptorchidism, varicocele, and trauma. Ultrasonography is helpful for detecting small testes and for differential diagnosis.

Summary: The accuracy of B-mode ultrasonography and ARFI elastography in detecting malignancy in canine splenic lesions was evaluated. The study found that ARFI elastography can effectively differentiate malignant and benign lesions, with shear wave velocity (SWV) serving as a diagnostic marker.

Summary: This study reveals the presence of apelin and its receptor in the canine testes through immunohistochemical and RT-PCR techniques. Apelin is localized in spermatids and spermatozoa, while the apelin receptor is detected in the cytoplasm of cells near the basal membrane of the seminiferous tubules and in Leydig cells.

Summary: Fish farms are susceptible to disease outbreaks and stress, negatively affecting fish growth, reproduction, and metabolism. By analyzing the metabolome and transcriptome profiles in zebrafish testes after an immune response, this study identified 20 different metabolites released and 80 differentially expressed genes. Glutamine and succinic acid were found to be the most abundant metabolites, and 27.5% of the genes were related to the immune or reproduction systems. Pathway analysis revealed the involvement of cad and iars genes in coordination with succinate metabolism. This research uncovers the interplay between reproduction and immune systems and provides insights for improving the resilience of broodstock.

Summary: This study evaluates the additional value of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in characterizing focal liver lesions (FLLs). The combination of B-mode ultrasound and SMI improves the characterization of FLLs, especially in diagnosing malignant tumors and hemangiomas. SMI provides higher sensitivity than CDI and PDI in detecting tumor vascularity.

Summary: Greyscale and Colour Doppler ultrasound are main imaging modalities for scrotal trauma, with Contrast-enhanced ultrasound and elastography as advanced techniques for equivocal cases. ESUR-SPIWG provides guidance for the utilization of multiparametric ultrasound in scrotal trauma evaluation.

Summary: Power Doppler is a non-invasive imaging technique used for monitoring ovarian changes in mares, showing differences in blood flows and hormone levels between young and mature equines. The technique is valuable for assessing ovarian hemodynamics and predicting progesterone levels accurately.

Summary: The study finds that PCB exposure is associated with reduced testes weights in animals with good body condition, while the impact is diminished in animals with poor body condition, possibly due to nutritional stress limiting testes weights. As testes weight is a key indicator of male fertility in seasonally breeding mammals, it is suggested to include these effects in population level impact assessments involving PCB exposures. This finding has significant global implications for the reproductive health of coastal cetacean species.

Summary: This study used deep sequencing technology to identify and characterize piRNAs in sheep testes. The results showed that the piRNAs in sheep testes exhibited distinct characteristics and were aligned predominantly to transposons. Additionally, they were found to have possible regulatory roles in multiple pathways related to spermatogenesis. These findings provide new insights into the role of piRNAs in sheep reproduction.

Summary: Shear-wave elastography, superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and CEUS were used to predict allograft rejection in kidney transplants. Among non-invasive quantitative ultrasound measurements, CEUS parameters were found to be the most useful for diagnosing subclinical rejection. The combination of CEUS parameters, RI, and blood urea nitrogen may be helpful for the early detection of renal allograft rejection.

Summary: This study investigated and categorized the diverse features of hepatic hemangiomas using superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in a relatively large prospective study. Most hemangiomas, especially larger or rapidly enhancing ones, showed vascularity on SMI, with the strip rim pattern being the most common SMI pattern followed by the nodular rim pattern.

Summary: The aromatase-estrogen system plays a crucial role in gonadal sex differentiation and regulates testicular activity in vertebrates, with differences in expression among species. It acts as an on/off switch for spermatogenesis in seasonal breeding species, promoting or blocking spermatogenesis depending on estrogen levels. Excessive production of aromatase in birds reduces reproductive performance, while the use of aromatase inhibitors has proven effective in improving fertility.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate digitalized images obtained via B-mode sonography during different stages of pregnancy and assess the features of the canine placenta. Computational analysis of the ultrasound pictures revealed characteristic changes in grey value parameters, contrast, and local homogeneity as the pregnancy progressed.
