Summary: Takayasu Arteritis (TAK) is a rare inflammatory disease affecting the large blood vessels, causing severe manifestations in both systemic and local tissues. Despite newer understanding of its pathogenesis, there is still a lack of long-term data in children and the prognosis remains uncertain, with a high disease burden.

Summary: In this study, the effectiveness and safety of tocilizumab were compared between intravenous and subcutaneous administration in 109 Takayasu arteritis patients. The results showed that both intravenous and subcutaneous tocilizumab achieved complete remission in TAK patients, but the risk of relapse was higher in the subcutaneous group.

Summary: This study found that approximately 60% of TAK patients treated with tocilizumab did not experience progression in wall thickness within 96 weeks, but a few patients experienced progression in dilatation/aneurysm or stenosis/occlusion. Patients with newly progressed lesions may require additional treatment.

Summary: Crohn's disease and Takayasu arteritis are two distinct clinical entities with low likelihood of coexisting. A case of a 15-year-old female initially diagnosed with Crohn's disease and later with Takayasu arteritis is reported. A review of literature showed that in most cases, Crohn's disease was diagnosed first followed by Takayasu arteritis.

Summary: This review summarizes recent advances in Takayasu arteritis (TAK), focusing on pathogenesis, imaging modalities, and management. Three novel clusters based on angiographic findings were identified and replicated in different cohorts. New imaging modalities have shown promising results in assessing arterial inflammation. There is more evidence on the long-term use of tocilizumab, but relapses are common. Janus kinase inhibitors seem to be promising based on recent findings. Improvements in imaging modalities and understanding of disease pathogenesis will enhance disease assessment and identification of effective therapies.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed a series of percutaneous interventions (PI) for Takayasu arteritis (TAK) in a single-center database from 1996 to 2022. The results showed that most vascular lesions in TAK can be effectively, safely, and durably treated using predominantly stent-based PI strategies.

Summary: This review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology, cause, and epidemiology of Takayasu arteritis, as well as the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment in children. Although the exact etiology of this disease is not fully understood, it is believed to have an autoimmune basis and genetic predisposition. Unlike in adults, Takayasu arteritis in children has distinct diagnostic criteria and clinical manifestations. Current treatment algorithms involve the use of less toxic contemporary biologic agents and early diagnosis for better long-term prognosis.

Summary: This study demonstrated elevated levels of mast cell activation markers in the sera of TAK patients compared to healthy donors, along with increased mast cell expression in aortic lesions of TAK patients. Mast cells stimulated by TAK patient sera supported neoangiogenesis and fibrosis compared to healthy donor sera, indicating their key role in vascular lesions. These findings suggest mast cells may serve as a potential therapeutic target in large vessel vasculitis.

Summary: This study assessed the incidence of serious infections and infection-related deaths in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) treated with rituximab and azathioprine. The overall cumulative incidence of serious infections was 15.99%, with 14.61% in the rituximab group and 5.93% in the azathioprine group during maintenance. Fatal infections during maintenance treatment were uncommon. Further clinical practice and long-term follow up are needed to verify these findings.

Summary: Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a rare autoimmune rheumatic disease that mainly affects individuals between the ages of 20 and 30. The incidence rate varies significantly among different populations, with higher rates observed in women. Future research should focus on specific populations to better identify genetic and environmental risk factors.

Summary: Levosimendan did not significantly improve patients' postoperative troponin I and B-type natriuretic peptide profiles during the immediate postoperative stage in comparison with placebo, although both were numerically higher with placebo. Levosimendan, however, significantly reduced lactic acid levels and improved patients' DO2 profiles.

Summary: This study compared the safety and efficacy of catheter ablation guided by a nonfluoroscopic intracardiac navigation system (NFINS) with fluoroscopy-guided procedures in pediatric patients. The results showed that the use of NFINS significantly reduced fluoroscopy and ablation time without compromising procedure success or increasing complications. NFINS could potentially decrease the risk of ionizing radiation in pediatric ablations.
