Summary: This study aims to explore the outcomes of metastatic patients with completely necrotic local stage III Wilms tumours, in relation to the application of postoperative radiotherapy. The results indicated excellent 5-year event-free survival and overall survival rates in this patient category, suggesting that abdominal irradiation may not be necessary in first-line treatment for these patients.

Summary: The updated Wilms tumour surveillance guidelines have been released for clinical geneticists, pediatricians, pediatric oncologists, and radiologists caring for children at risk of WT. These guidelines stress the importance of registering all patients with cancer predisposition syndromes in order to improve future tumor risk estimation and surveillance programs.

Summary: This study is the first to report on the incidence of teratoid Wilms tumor (TWT) among Chinese children. The results suggest that a combination of surgery and chemotherapy may be appropriate for the treatment of WT patients, although prognostic outcomes vary among patients with different stages of the disease. TWT tumor density may be lower than classical WT tumor density. Further research on the biological characteristics of TWT and relevant therapeutic markers is needed to guide the development of personalized treatments for this rare cancer type.

Summary: This systematic review explores the role of liver resection in the treatment of Wilms' tumor liver metastases (WTLM). The results suggest that liver resection may improve survival rates of WTLM patients, particularly those with persistent disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy or metachronous liver metastases. However, due to the limited number of studies and potential bias, further research is needed to provide more definitive evidence on the optimal treatment for WTLM.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate if a subset of Wilms' tumors showing an excellent response to preoperative chemotherapy had comparable survival rates as completely necrotic tumors, and to establish a cut-off point of chemotherapy-induced changes. It was found that patients with Wilms' tumors showing high levels of chemotherapy-induced changes had similar excellent event-free survival and overall survival rates as patients with completely necrotic tumors.

Summary: Outcomes for most Wilms tumor patients are positive, but there are subgroups with a survival rate of around 50% or lower. This article discusses the historical and current approach to the classification and treatment of high-risk Wilms tumors, including those with specific histology, relapsed patients, and those in socioeconomic disadvantaged areas. As conventional therapies are insufficient, further investigation is needed to identify active agents.

Summary: Outcomes for the majority of Wilms tumor patients are excellent, but there are still subgroups with a lower survival rate. This review discusses the historical and current approach to the classification and treatment of high-risk Wilms tumors, including specific criteria for high-risk patients. Inadequate conventional therapies highlight the urgency for advancements in laboratory and early-phase clinical investigations to identify effective agents.

Summary: This study compares the management and outcomes of bilateral Wilms' tumours between low-income centres and high-income centres, revealing significantly higher ten-year survival in high-income centres. This difference may be due to patient factors such as late disease diagnosis in low-income centres.

Summary: Wilms tumor (WT) is a rare form of cancer that typically affects children and is usually confined to the kidneys. Extra-renal Wilms tumor (ERWT) is even rarer and develops in other areas of the body, such as the retroperitoneum and inguinal regions, and occasionally at the level of the spinal cord. Our research emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment and, possibly, standardized medical approach, in order to improve the outcome of these very rare pediatric malignancies, whose clinical management is even more problematic in developing countries.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the outcomes in patients with stage III Wilms' tumor due to positive resection margins (RM). The results showed that patients without viable tumor had better local-relapse-free survival (RFS) and event-free survival (EFS) compared to patients with viable tumor.

Summary: The study compared the immunohistochemical expression of IL-6 in placental membranes of late preterm delivery in women with histologically proven chorioamnionitis with and without PPROM. Despite the clinical presentation, chorioamnionitis did not impact the immunohistochemical expression of IL-6 in the placental membranes of women with late preterm delivery.

Summary: This study aims to determine the main variables associated with nurses' sickness absence and improve the prediction of sickness absence based on pandemic-related experiences. It also examines the differences between COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 nurses in terms of post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, personality traits, coping strategies, and professional stressors. The results show that it is possible to predict the probability of nurses using sickness absence based on their pandemic professional experience, personality traits, and coping strategies.

Summary: This is a case report of a 14-year-old male who developed acute appendicitis due to a swallowed tooth. The main symptoms were acute abdominal pain and vomiting. The diagnosis was confirmed by abdominal ultrasound and emergency laparoscopic appendectomy was successfully performed. The importance of this case lies in emphasizing the need for a thorough history in pediatric patients presenting to the emergency department with suspected acute appendicitis to rule out any precipitating events.

Results showed that personality traits, work stressors, and direct exposure to COVID-19 patients were significant risk factors for post-traumatic stress symptoms. The use of protective equipment did not change the impact of pandemic-related stressors on the amount of trauma experienced.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the negative appendectomy rates and analyze the demographic and clinical data of patients with negative histopathology reports. The findings showed a negative appendectomy rate of 12.4%, with higher rates in female children, especially those aged 10 to 15 years. Female children also had significantly lower BMI values compared to male children. Increasing the use of auxiliary diagnostic methods, such as computed tomography, may help reduce the pediatric negative appendectomy rate.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of serum ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) in diagnosing and prognosticating acute appendicitis. The results showed that IMA levels were significantly elevated in patients with acute appendicitis and higher in patients with complicated appendicitis compared to non-complicated appendicitis. However, the methodological quality of the available studies was limited, indicating a need for further well-designed and adequately powered studies.
