Summary: After kidney transplantation, patients' health-related quality of life generally improves significantly, especially when compared with dialysis patients and those on the waiting list for transplantation. While there may be slight declines in mental aspects, the HRQOL in disease-specific domains is better.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of age at the time of returning to dialysis on the association between second kidney transplantation (2KT) and survival. The findings showed that 2KT was associated with better survival compared to remaining on dialysis after the first graft failure. However, this survival benefit decreased with increasing age.

Summary: This study examined the competing risks of death and kidney failure in Australian adults with severe chronic kidney disease over a five-year period. The risk of death increased with age, while the risk of kidney failure declined with age. Men had a higher risk of kidney failure and death compared to women in all age groups.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of nearly 10,000 simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant recipients revealed that preemptive transplantation led to improved patient and graft survival rates, particularly for those on dialysis for an extended period.

Summary: This study compared the health related quality of life (HRQOL) between kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and hemodialysis (HD) patients. The results showed that KTRs had significantly higher HRQOL scores in various domains and subscales of the SF-36 scale compared to HD patients, indicating better physical and mental health outcomes in KTRs. Further research is needed to identify modifiable factors associated with lower HRQOL in KTRs for intervention.

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases are the main causes of morbidity in children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study evaluates the use of electrocardiography (ECG) in detecting dangerous changes in CKD and kidney replacement therapies and compares its value in predicting cardiovascular outcomes with echocardiography. The findings suggest that ECG can be used to detect cardiovascular problems, especially in hemodialysis (HD) patients. ECG abnormalities suggestive of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) should prompt referrals for echocardiographic assessment.

Summary: This study aimed to compare symptoms and health-related quality of life in chronic kidney disease patients and found that as kidney function deteriorated, symptoms worsened and health-related quality of life decreased. Early identification and proactive management by nurses are crucial for reducing symptom burden and improving quality of life in these patients.

Summary: The incidence of childhood kidney failure in Israel has decreased over the past 30 years. Arab and Druze children have higher rates of kidney failure compared to Jewish children, and there is a lower rate of living-donor kidney transplantations among minority populations.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in health-related quality of life before and after the initiation of dialysis in older patients with kidney failure. The results showed a significant decline in both mental and physical health-related quality of life in the year preceding dialysis, which stabilized in the year following dialysis.

Summary: The study showed differences in factors influencing KRT modality choice among European countries, potentially due to disparities in availability of modalities and healthcare systems. Patients in low-GDP countries received information later and were less satisfied. Most decisions were made collaboratively between patients and nephrologists.

Summary: By comparing the quality of life (QoL) scores before and after parathyroidectomy (PTX), it was found that PTX can improve the QoL of dialysis patients with medically refractory secondary hyperparathyroidism. After PTX, nutritional markers improved and several domain scale scores of KDQOL-36, including Symptoms and Problems of Kidney Disease, Burden of Kidney Disease, Effects of Kidney Disease, Physical Component Summary (PCS) score, and Mental Component Summary score, significantly increased. Furthermore, the duration of PTX was found to have a significant negative correlation with PCS subscale scores and a positive correlation with EKD subscale scores.

Summary: This study assessed the quality of life of dialysis patients and examined its determinants. The results showed no significant difference in the mean score of health-related quality of life components among different dialysis types. Demographic data did not significantly affect the quality of life of dialysis patients. Patients with a dialysis duration of more than 5 years had a better quality of life. Laboratory parameters such as low albumin and low hemoglobin showed a significant correlation with the health-related quality of life of dialysis patients.

Summary: Functional polymorphisms of MMP2, MMP9, and TIMP2 genes are associated with renal allograft rejection and interstitial fibrosis in pediatric renal transplant recipients. These genetic variations could serve as important predictive biological markers for the follow-up of kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: This study reviewed the long-term survival outcomes of patients with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF)-related amyloidosis who underwent kidney transplantation (KT). The study found that the survival rate of these patients was lower compared to the control group, but there was no statistically significant difference. However, short- and long-term complications still need to be resolved.

Summary: This study was conducted to evaluate the positive effect of platelet-rich plasma on the healing process of an anastomotic wound in a rat model of ureterocystoanastomosis. The results showed that the use of platelet-rich plasma significantly increased tissue hydroxyproline levels, and there were no significant differences in epithelial damage, acute inflammation, or fibrosis between the platelet-rich plasma group and the control group.

Summary: The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio is significantly elevated in renal transplant patients with infection. It can be used as an indicator of inflammation in these patients presenting to emergency departments. The platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio can be used in conjunction with other biomarkers to assess systemic inflammation.

Summary: This study investigated the hepatic arterial Doppler ultrasound findings related to cholangitis after liver transplantation. It was found that the hepatic arterial flow, resistive index, and diameter decreased in patients with cholangitis after recovery. These findings can help in the early diagnosis of cholangitis and prevent graft loss.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of exertional leg pain in pediatric FMF patients and analyze its association with other characteristics of FMF. It was found that patients with exertional leg pain had higher colchicine dosage, higher frequency of arthritis and arthralgia, higher disease severity scores, and a stronger association with the M694V mutation.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the gradual changes in left and right ventricle functions in children and young adults before and after renal transplant. The results showed that both systolic and diastolic dysfunctions of both ventricles were common in pediatric renal transplant recipients, and these dysfunctions usually decreased with time. However, improvements in right ventricle dysfunction were slower, even in optimally treated posttransplant patients.
