Summary: This study found that the risk of heart failure increases with a longer duration of diabetes and increasing levels of glycemic control. Considering this finding may contribute to personalized prevention of heart failure in patients with diabetes.

Summary: In primary bariatric surgery patients, pre-operative HbA1c levels higher than 8% did not show a significant association with post-operative outcomes. There were differences in procedure selection and post-operative HbA1c levels between patients with pre-operative HbA1c < 8% and > 8%.

Summary: Patients with diabetes mellitus have a basic understanding of HbA1c definition but lack the ability to correlate it with average blood sugar. Additionally, there is a discrepancy between patients' perceived glycemic control and the actual situation.

Summary: The study found that HbA1c levels were significantly lower in patients with HbH disease compared to healthy individuals, while GA showed no significant difference between the two groups. Using HbA1c as a diagnostic criterion for diabetes may lead to a considerable number of diabetic patients with HbH disease being missed. GA, instead of HbA1c, is suitable for monitoring glycemic control in patients with HbH disease and can modify HbA1c's discriminative ability for diagnosing diabetes.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between HbA1c and the incidence of hypertension in a large prospective cohort. The findings suggest that HbA1c is linearly and positively associated with the risk of hypertension, particularly in female, lower education level, and non-obese subgroups. HbA1c can be considered as a predictor for hypertension risk.

Summary: Congenital heart defects are common birth defects with unknown causes. Recent development of experimental models, including mouse models and human cellular models, have helped to enhance our understanding of the molecular basis of these defects. The development of cardiac organoids also shows promise in creating more anatomically informative human models of congenital heart defects.

Summary: The discovery of HbA(1c) as a measure of average glucose exposure was a significant advancement in diabetes care. It is now widely used for monitoring and diagnosing diabetes due to its convenience, reliability, and standardization. Epidemiologic studies have shown strong links between HbA(1c) and complications, making it a cornerstone in modern diabetes care.

Summary: The incidence rates of heart disease (HD) and congenital heart disease (CHD) were compared between young Inuit populations in Greenland and Denmark. It was found that the incidence rate of HD was lower in Greenland compared to Denmark, while the incidence rates of CHD were similar in both countries. Individuals of Inuit/mixed ethnicity had a higher risk of both HD and CHD compared to non-Inuit individuals in both countries.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of different cervical ripening methods on maternal and neonatal outcomes among low-risk nulliparous individuals. The results showed that compared to using prostaglandin only, using Foley catheter with prostaglandin or Foley catheter alone was associated with a lower risk of adverse neonatal outcomes. Moreover, labor induction with Foley catheter and concurrent oxytocin resulted in the shortest duration of labor and delivery stay.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate whether the values and shape of the glucose curve during an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in pregnancy can identify women at risk of developing hypertension later in life. The results suggest that the 2-hour OGTT value was positively associated with the primary outcome, while the 3-hour OGTT value was negatively associated. Furthermore, a monophasic OGTT response was associated with an increased risk of hypertension.

Summary: This secondary analysis of a randomized trial found that almost 14% of low-risk nulliparous women who were expectantly managed at or after 39 weeks developed hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and they were more likely to experience adverse maternal outcomes compared to those who did not develop HDP.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate fetal biometrics as predictors of shoulder dystocia (SD) in a low-risk obstetrical population. The results showed that, apart from the use of epidural anesthesia, there were no significant associations between sociodemographic or maternal anthropometrics and SD in this low-risk population. Fetal biometrics had limited ability to predict SD and lack clinical usefulness.

Summary: This study investigated longitudinal activity during singleton and twin pregnancies by activity domain and maternal characteristics. The findings showed that household/caregiving activity accounted for the largest fraction of reported activity, followed by occupational activity. However, overall activity levels declined significantly during pregnancy. Non-Hispanic Black women reported higher activity levels than other racial/ethnic groups at baseline. Nulliparous women and women with singleton gestations reported lower activity levels compared to parous women and women with twins, respectively.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between mild gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and obesity with metabolic and cardiovascular markers 5 to 10 years after pregnancy.
