Summary: By analyzing data of CH patients from the HypoDok registry and combining screening TSH concentrations with individual l-T-4 dosages, it is possible to distinguish between transient and permanent hypothyroidism at 2 years of age, avoiding overtreatment and reassuring affected families.

Summary: Clinical hypothyroidism (CH) and subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) are associated with various metabolic comorbidities. This study explored the metabolic alterations in SCH and CH and identified potential metabolism biomarkers for their discrimination from euthyroid individuals. The results showed that the metabolic patterns in SCH and CH were significantly different from those of control groups, and the metabolite alterations between SCH and CH were similar. The study also found that SCH and CH had significant impacts on several metabolic pathways.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the results of congenital hypothyroidism screening in neonates born to women with subclinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy. The recall rate in CHS was higher among neonates of mothers with SHT. Risk factors for recall in CHS included being LBW or LGA, maternal TSH above the 97.5th percentile, and cesarean delivery.

Summary: The current AAP guidelines recommend monitoring thyroid function in infants with DS at specific time points, but this study found that the diagnosis of thyroid disorders would have been delayed in nearly 20% of subjects if following these guidelines. An additional thyroid function test at 1 and 3 months is suggested to improve early diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: In subclinical hypothyroidism, patients do not experience thyroid disease-related symptoms more often than euthyroid subjects. Comorbidity has a greater impact on symptoms in subclinical hypothyroid patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic criteria for subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and found that an elevated TSH in combination with normal levels of other thyroid hormones is necessary for the diagnosis of SCH. Furthermore, it suggests that a new threshold for TSH should be identified based on the distribution characteristics of TSH in the Chinese population.

Summary: Early treatment of central congenital hypothyroidism (CH) shows comparable cognitive and motor outcomes with siblings in patients with isolated central CH, while patients with multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies (MPHD) exhibit significantly lower full-scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ). Processing speed is lower in both patient groups compared to siblings, and motor difficulties are more prevalent in patients than in siblings.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to assess the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on thyroid dysfunction and its relationship with the severity of COVID-19. The results suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection may have detrimental effects on thyroid function in individuals with severe symptoms.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is higher in pregnant women with subclinical hypothyroidism compared to those with normal thyroid function. SIBO-positive patients are more likely to experience abdominal distension and constipation, and have lower body mass index. Additionally, SIBO-positive patients have higher levels of inflammatory markers and thyroid function indicators.

Summary: This nationwide population-based register study found that patients with congenital hypothyroidism (CH) are more susceptible to other chronic diseases and neurological difficulties than the general population. The study also revealed a higher incidence of congenital malformations in CH patients. Additionally, CH patients had a higher cumulative incidence of hearing loss and specific developmental disorders, but there was no significant difference in severe psychiatric comorbidity compared to the control group.

Summary: This study found that murmur and cyanosis are the most common symptoms of severe congenital heart defects that go undetected prenatally, with most children diagnosed during the neonatal period. However, a portion of patients are discharged from the hospital after birth with undiagnosed defects.
