Summary: In traditional cardiovascular medicine, the focus on the left ventricle has overshadowed the importance of the left atrium. Recent advances have shown that the left atrium plays a crucial role in various cardiovascular diseases, impacting symptoms, prognosis, and potential therapeutic targets.

Summary: Abnormalities in drainage of the Great Cardiac Vein (GCV) are rare and likely underreported, requiring attention. Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) plays an important role in diagnosing GCV drainage abnormalities, especially for procedures that require venous access.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of MRI-guided catheterization in young patients with CHD using advanced visualization passive tracking techniques. The results indicated that MRI-guided catheterizations were carried out safely and is feasible in children and adults with CHD. The pSAT sequence offered robust and simultaneous high contrast visualization of the catheter and cardiac anatomy.

Summary: The study aimed to explore a new algorithm model that leverages deep learning for screening and diagnosing left-to-right shunt congenital heart disease (CHD) in children. With deep learning, screening models were constructed, successfully identifying 884 heart sound recordings from children with this type of CHD. The RCRnet model showed higher accuracy in diagnosing various types of CHD compared to expert auscultation. Additionally, there were weak correlations between heart sounds and LVEF, RVSP, and malformation size.

Summary: STE epsilon analysis revealed significant LV systolic impairment after surgery, with improvement thereafter but incomplete normalization at discharge. Differences between base and apex emerged, with apical segments showing relative hypercontractility after surgery. Slower recovery of LV epsilon values compared to LVEF suggests that STE epsilon analysis may be more accurate for follow-up of mild LV post-surgical impairment.

Summary: The incidence rates of heart disease (HD) and congenital heart disease (CHD) were compared between young Inuit populations in Greenland and Denmark. It was found that the incidence rate of HD was lower in Greenland compared to Denmark, while the incidence rates of CHD were similar in both countries. Individuals of Inuit/mixed ethnicity had a higher risk of both HD and CHD compared to non-Inuit individuals in both countries.

Summary: This study found that six out of ten children with CHD were diagnosed with significant delay, with delayed diagnosis by doctor being the most common cause. Children with cyanotic CHD who lived outside the city, had non-syndromic conditions, low family income, normal labor, and term gestation at birth were more likely to experience delayed diagnosis. Comorbid complications like heart failure and pulmonary hypertension were prevalent in children with delayed diagnosis of CHD.

Summary: Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is a ventricular wall anomaly characterized by numerous prominent trabeculations and deep intertrabecular recesses. The outcome of pediatric LVNC is determined by the interplay of genetics, morphology, and function.

Summary: Transseptal puncture (TSP) is a safe and effective procedure for accessing the left heart in children and adolescents over 1 year of age. However, it carries higher risks in infants with a restrictive interatrial septum, especially when enlargement of interatrial communication is needed.

Summary: Hybrid palliation is an initial management strategy for infants with critical left heart obstruction, but the mortality rate remains high. Some infants may achieve biventricular repair through hybrid palliation, while for others, this method may serve as stabilization for intended functional univentricular palliation or primary transplantation.

Summary: The volume loading of the right ventricle has an impact on the pumping mechanics of the left ventricle in patients with atrial septal defect and repaired Tetralogy of Fallot. However, the effects on exercise capacity, arrhythmias, and death are limited. The function of the left ventricle may still be affected even after intervention.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate left ventricular (LV) reverse remodeling after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in children. The results showed that most pediatric patients had improvements in LV volume, mass, dimension, and sphericity index after 6 months of TAVR. Functional parameters were normal at baseline and follow-up. Failure of reverse remodeling may be associated with left bundle branch block after the procedure.

Summary: This study evaluated pulmonary arterial vasa vasorum in Fontan candidate patients using a novel 3D imaging technique with OCT. The results showed significantly increased VV number and diameter, as well as higher VV volume ratio in BDG and Fontan groups compared to the control group. Three-dimensional OCT imaging may provide insights into the role of PA VV in these patients.

Summary: Ellis-van Creveld syndrome is an autosomal recessive skeletal dysplasia characterized by thoracic hypoplasia, polydactyly, oral abnormalities, and congenital heart disease. It is caused by pathogenic variants in the EVC or EVC2 genes. This study reports a case of a newborn with a compound heterozygous variant in the EVC2 gene and a novel large deletion involving exon 1 in EVC and exons 1-7 in EVC2.
