Background. I-131-Metaiodobenzylguanidine (I-131-MIBG) provides targeted radiotherapy for children with neuroblastoma, malignancy of the sympathetic nervous system. Dissociated radioactive iodide may concentrate in the thyroid, and I-131-MIBG is concentrated in the liver after I-131-MIBG therapy. The aim of our study was to analyze the effects of I-131-MIBG therapy on thyroid and liver function. Procedure. Pre- and post-therapy thyroid and liver functions were reviewed in a total of 194 neuroblastoma patients treated with I-131-MIBG therapy. The cumulative incidence over time was estimated for both thyroid and liver toxicities. The relationship to cumulative dose/kg, number of treatments, time from treatment to follow-up, sex, and patient age was examined. Results. In patients who presented with Grade 0 or 1 thyroid toxicity at baseline, 12 +/- 4% experienced onset of or worsening to Grade 2 hypothyroidism and one patient developed Grade 2 hyperthyroidism by 2 years after I-131-MIBG therapy. At 2 years post-I-131-MIBG therapy, 76 +/- 4% patients experienced onset or worsening of hepatic toxicity to any grade, and 23 +/- 5% experienced onset of or worsening to Grade 3 or 4 liver toxicity. Liver toxicity was usually transient asymptomatic transaminase elevation, frequently confounded by disease progression and other therapies. Conclusion. The prophylactic regimen of potassium iodide and potassium perchlorate with I-131-MIBG therapy resulted in a low rate of significant hypothyroidism. Liver abnormalities following I-131-MIBG therapy were primarily reversible and did not result in late toxicity. I-131-MIBG therapy is a promising treatment for children with relapsed neuroblastoma with a relatively low rate of symptomatic thyroid or hepatic dysfunction. Pediatr Blood Cancer 2011;56:191-201. Retroperitoneal Inflammation Detected on FDG PET/CT in Patient on Long-Term Immunotherapy

Tasnim Khessib, Benjamin Franc, Eric Yang, Farshad Moradi

Summary: A 68-year-old man with a history of pulmonary adenocarcinoma on maintenance pembrolizumab presented with new soft tissue stranding and inflammation on F-18-FDG PET/CT, which were confirmed as immunotherapy-related toxicity on biopsy. He discontinued pembrolizumab, which he had been taking for 3 years. Recognizing immunotherapy-related adverse effects on F-18-FDG PET/CT is crucial for timely cessation of treatment.

Summary: The feasibility of using the StarGuide, a new generation multi-detector CZT-based SPECT/CT system, for whole-body imaging in post-therapy imaging of Lu-177-labeled radiopharmaceuticals was evaluated in this study. Results showed that fast acquisition of whole-body post-therapy SPECT/CT data using the StarGuide system is feasible and has comparable detection/targeting rate for large lesions defined by RECIST criteria compared to the standard GE Discovery 670 Pro SPECT/CT system.

Summary: In this study, the origin of three energy gaps in lanthanum chromium oxide is analyzed using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results show charge-transfer and d-d transitions as the sources of the gaps. The use of Tanabe-Sugano diagram and absorption spectrum helps in understanding the spin allowed and parity forbidden transitions. The findings have significant implications in laser applications and the development of optoelectronic devices.

Influence of native defects on magneto-optoelectronic properties of a-MoO3

Poonam Sharma, Vikash Mishra, Alok Shukla

Summary: Semiconducting oxides with native defects exhibit intriguing electronic, optical, and magnetic properties. Using first-principles calculations, this study investigates the influence of native defects on a-MoO3. The formation energy calculations reveal that Mo vacancies are difficult to form, while O and Mo-O co-vacancies are energetically favorable. The presence of vacancies leads to mid-gap states and significantly affects the magneto-optoelectronic properties, such as inducing half-metallic behavior and large magnetic moments.

Emergence and Relaxation of an e-h Quantum Liquid Phase in Photoexcited MoS2 Nanoparticles at Room Temperature

Pritha Dey, Tejendra Dixit, Vikash Mishra, Anubhab Sahoo, Cheriyanath Vijayan, Sivarama Krishnan

Summary: In this study, the formation and decay of an unexpected electron-hole quantum liquid phase in multi-layer MoS2 nanoparticles at room temperature is investigated using femtosecond broadband transient absorption spectroscopy. The research reveals that the initial electron-hole plasma condenses into a quantum electron-hole liquid phase, which lasts for about 10 picoseconds, before decaying through phonons. A physical model employing nonlinear rate equations is used to extract the contributions of each phase to bandgap renormalization. This work not only observes the electron-hole liquid-like state at room temperature but also reveals the ultrafast dynamics of photo-excited low-dimensional systems.

Summary: Intraarterial corticosteroid treatment can provide symptom relief for pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with minimal side effects. Vascular morphologic changes in the mesenteric circulation correlate with disease activity in patients with Crohn's disease. This approach shows promise as a locoregional therapy for IBD patients, but further research is needed.

Investigating the effect of H+-ion irradiation on layered α-MoO3 flakes by defect engineering

Ravindra Kumar, Vikash Mishra, Tejendra Dixit, S. N. Sarangi, D. Samal, Muralidhar Miryala, Pramoda K. Nayak, M. S. Ramachandra Rao

Summary: Ion irradiation is an important tool for modifying the properties of 2D materials. In this study, H-ion irradiation was used to engineer defects in a-MoO3 flakes. After irradiation, new photoluminescence peaks were observed, which were attributed to the non-uniform distribution of oxygen vacancies. The origin of these peaks was confirmed through first-principle calculations and Bader charge analysis.

Summary: In this study, the resistive switching mechanism in ZnO and CuO based on native point defects under various growth conditions has been investigated. The results show that the stability and formation energy of different defect types vary under different growth environments, playing an important role in memristive behavior. Additionally, the defect concentration also has a significant impact on the transition from analog to digital switching in memristive behavior.

Dipole plasmon vitalized efficient white light emission via charge transfer in all oxide-based heterojunctions

Arige Sumanth, Vikash Mishra, Vipul Singh, Tejendra Dixit

Summary: A simple solution-based technique using all-oxide semiconductor-based heterojunction is reported for efficient white-light emission. Vertically oriented CuO nanorods with deposited ZnO thin films on top showed excellent white-light emission. The inclusion of an Au layer between ZnO/CuO heterojunction significantly improved white-light emission, resulting in a white light photoluminescence with chromaticity coordinates of (0.32, 0.34).

Observation of positive trions in α-MoO3/MoS2 van der Waals heterostructures

Ravindra Kumar, Vikash Mishra, Tejendra Dixit, Prahalad Kanti Barman, Pramoda K. Nayak, M. S. Ramachandra Rao

Summary: Mono-layer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are promising materials for studying many-body physics due to their low dimensionality and strong Coulomb interaction. The van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures (HSs) of TMDCs provide an additional degree of freedom for altering the properties of 2D materials. In this study, vdW HSs (& alpha;-MoO3/MoS2) were synthesized and their temperature-dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra were investigated. The emergence of a new PL peak in the low-energy regime was attributed to the formation of a positive trion, which was confirmed by power and wavelength-dependent Raman and PL studies.
