Summary: The study compared the short-term outcomes of single-port, reduced-port, and conventional laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, suggesting that single-port and reduced-port approaches could be alternative choices for selected patients. Although there was a slight difference in remission of dyslipidemia, this difference disappeared after matching. Further studies are necessary to establish standardized guidelines for single-port sleeve gastrectomy.

Summary: A study evaluated the effect of preoperative very-low-calorie diet on liver size in patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The diet regimen resulted in significant reduction of liver size, particularly in the left lobe. Changes in liver lobes were positively correlated with weight, body mass index, and initial size of the lobes.

Summary: The study found that robotic assisted kidney transplant (RAKT) is a safe alternative for morbidly obese patients with a BMI>35, with lower surgical site infection rates compared to traditional open kidney transplant (OKT). Graft function and survival rates were similar between the RAKT group and the OKT group.

Summary: Robot-assisted sleeve gastrectomy (RSG) patients have a higher likelihood of conversion to open procedures, longer postoperative stay, higher readmission rates, and higher charges compared to laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) patients. There are no clear advantages for the utilization of the robotic platform for either average risk or extremely obese patients.

Summary: This study used an unsupervised machine learning approach to investigate morbidly obese kidney transplant recipients and found varying post-transplant outcomes among different clusters. Recipients with earlier access to transplantation and living donor kidneys demonstrated superior survival rates. The reduced graft survival in cluster 3 recipients may highlight socioeconomic disparities in post-transplant support and access to preemptive and living donor transplants. Obesity itself should be reconsidered as a strict barrier to kidney transplantation.

Summary: The study found that within 1 year after sleeve gastrectomy, obese patients experienced significant reductions in body weight, BMI, and body fat content, along with improvements in liver enzymes. While fibrosis stage did not significantly improve, liver steatosis improved in 81.8% of patients and the NAFLD activity score decreased in 90.9% of patients.

Summary: Kidney transplantation is considered the gold standard treatment for end-stage kidney disease, with robot-assisted kidney transplantation showing potential for improved clinical outcomes in children. Minimally invasive surgery techniques can benefit pediatric kidney transplant patients, although challenges in implementation remain.

Summary: The study compared the minor and major intra- and postoperative complications of living donor robotic assisted kidney transplantation in obese, overweight, and non-overweight recipients. The results showed that there were no major intra-operative complications in any study group, and rates of postoperative complications and delayed graft function were similar among the three groups. The number of arteries was identified as an independent predictive factor of suboptimal renal function at post-operative day 30 in the multivariate analysis.

Summary: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a safe and effective procedure for morbidly and super obese patients, leading to sustainable total and excess weight loss, as well as comorbidity resolution. Complications associated with LSG are minimal and nonserious, making it the recommended surgery for improving morbidity, mortality, and overall quality of life in these patients.
