Summary: This study identified a novel haplosporidian parasite causing disease in the hepatopancreas of wild Australian decapod crustaceans and sergestid shrimp. The infected epithelial cells become hypertrophied and can cause displacement of normal tissue. This is the first report of haplosporidiosis in Australian decapod crustaceans and sergestid shrimp. The findings suggest that this parasite may influence the population dynamics of sergestid shrimp.

Summary: Experimental results in rice and Arabidopsis plants indicate that the TOR protein regulates ribosome biogenesis and translation initiation by phosphorylating S6K1. The study also demonstrates the transcriptional upregulation of RP genes in TOR overexpressing transgenic plants. Furthermore, analysis of mutants suggests that the regulation of RP function may involve phosphorylation of S6K1.

Summary: The substance N-4-Acetylcytidine (ac(4)C) has been found to have impacts on various cellular and biological processes. To gain a mechanistic understanding of ac(4)C's roles in biology and disease, researchers have developed a new method called FAM-seq, which detects ac(4)C in RNA without using antibodies. By applying FAM-seq, the researchers successfully mapped the distribution of ac(4)C in human cell lines and found its important role in regulating chemotherapy drug resistance in chronic myeloid leukemia. This study suggests that understanding ac(4)C modification could enhance drug development and combination therapy in cancer treatment.

Summary: The first intermediate host for a species of Didymozoidae (Trematoda: Hemiuroidea), a bivalve from the family Arcidae, was identified using multi-loci molecular data. The study examined different stages of a new didymozoid taxon and compared their genetic information. The findings provide insights into the relationships within Didymozoidae and Hemiuroidea, as well as the infection of bivalves as intermediate hosts.

Summary: The study revealed that the new hypotrichous ciliate Quadristicha subtropica has unique morphological characteristics consistent with its systematic position. However, phylogenetic analyses indicate that its position within the tree is unstable and the genus Quadristicha is not monophyletic.

Summary: A new marine planktonic ciliate species, Strombidium parasulcatum sp. n., was discovered in Taiwan. Its morphological characters are similar to Strombidium sulcatum sensu Song et al., 2000, but differ from other descriptions of S. sulcatum. Molecular analysis confirmed that they should be considered separate species. The study also highlights the importance of bacteria as a food resource for this ciliate, indicating the presence of potential cryptic species within the genus Strombidium.

Summary: Tunicothrix halophila, a new species found in a hypersaline marine environment in Jeju Island, Korea, is characterized by a reduced number of dorsal bristles and the absence of key features of the Tunicothrix genus. Molecular analysis suggests that the reduction of dorsal bristles may be a secondarily evolved trait in hypersaline hypotrichs.

Summary: In this study, two new species, Paralitonotus foissneri and Loxophyllum apochlorelligerum, were investigated using an integrative approach. Paralitonotus foissneri has a distinctive ciliary pattern, while Loxophyllum apochlorelligerum has specific morphological characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis revealed their relationship and proposed a new taxonomic scheme for such species.

Summary: This research describes a new species of quill mite and conducts a phylogenetic analysis of the primitive syringophilid genera. The results reveal a significant evolutionary relationship between the new species and quill mites associated with neognathous birds, providing important implications for understanding the evolution of quill mites and their relationship with avian hosts.

Summary: This article studied the parasite composition of the farmed northern snakehead in China and discovered a new species of myxosporean called Myxobilatus channi. This parasite caused damage to the intestine of the fish, leading to sloughing and necrosis of the intestinal villi. The findings contribute to the understanding of parasite infections in northern snakehead and will inform future management strategies.

Summary: We describe a new species of Hesionidae, Micropodarke fujianensis, collected from Fujian Province, China, based on morphological and molecular analyses. This new species is characterized by the presence of two pairs of minute eyes and neurochaetae in the middle segments without basal long teeth. Phylogenetic analyses using COI, 16S rRNA, 18S rRNA, 28S rRNA, and histone H3 fragments show significant genetic divergence from closely related species, with the closest species being M. cf. dubia collected from Daya Bay, China. An updated key to Micropodarke species is provided.

Summary: A subpopulation of 97 European eels was obtained from Lake Trasimeno, and they were examined for parasites in the swimbladder and intestine. The swimbladders of 68% of the eels contained adult specimens of the nematode Anguillicoloides crassus, with an average intensity of infection of 7.27 worms per swimbladder. The infected swimbladders showed thickened walls, presence of black-brownish nematodes, and various pathological changes.
