Summary: Immune cell changes are associated with Kawasaki disease pathogenesis, with monocyte inflammatory genes over-expressed and oligoclonal expansions observed in TCR and BCR clonotype sequences after IVIG therapy. The study provides insights into the pathogenesis and therapy of KD by profiling PBMC from patients before and after treatment, identifying differential gene expression and changes in B cell and T cell percentages, as well as oligoclonal expansions.

Summary: Acute pancreatitis is a common gastrointestinal disease characterized by acute onset of abdominal pain, often leading to organ failure and death. Monocytes, a type of cells in the innate immune system, are highlighted as key contributors and regulators of the inflammatory response and organ failure in acute pancreatitis, with a special focus on lipid modulation.

Summary: In this study, memory-like natural killer (ML NK) cells were evaluated for their potential in treating relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients after transplantation. The results show that ML NK cells hold promise in AML therapy, and serial assessments of blood and bone marrow provide new insights into their biology.

Summary: This study found that the ongoing stimulation of immunity and excessive release of proinflammatory cytokines observed in pediatric patients with Gaucher disease (GD) can lead to alterations in immune cells, including abnormal proportions of CD8 T-cells and NK cells. These immunological changes may play a role in the pathogenesis and progression of GD.

Summary: As the placenta is semi-allogenic, it is expected that maternal immune cells would attack the invading trophoblast, but studies have shown that they cooperate with the trophoblast to disrupt the arterial wall. uNK cells, unique immune cells, play a role in pregnancy. The interaction between HLA class 1b genes and maternal uNK cells in humans is described in this review.

Summary: Natural Killer (NK) cells have evolved significantly since their initial discovery in the 1970s. Recent research has revealed adaptive-like behavior in NK cells, challenging the traditional categorization of the immune system. This subpopulation of NK cells exhibits characteristics of both innate and adaptive immunity, with clonal-like expansion and enhanced cytotoxic response upon antigen exposure. The implications of these findings are highly relevant in clinical settings, particularly in adoptive immunotherapies where NK cells offer distinct advantages. This review provides an overview of the discovery and current understanding of adaptive NK cells.

Summary: The increasing number of cancer-associated deaths despite improved diagnosis and treatment has led to a need for new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies. Exosomes play a crucial role in tumor development and progression by transferring various cargo to other cells. Understanding how exosomes interact with immune cells and tumor cells can help in developing targeted therapies for cancer. This review focuses on the intercellular communication between tumor cells and immune cells mediated by exosomes, and discusses how this communication affects tumor progression.

Summary: This study found that in acute pancreatitis, the enlarged size of monocytes leads to obstruction in the capillary systems of the lung and kidney, causing organ dysfunction. Selective depletion of monocytes may be a treatment strategy for pancreatitis and other inflammation-related disorders.

Summary: This study reveals that innate lymphoid cells (ILC1) accumulate in the brain during the onset of cerebral Toxoplasma gondii infection and contribute to the production of IFN-g and TNF, initiating a neuroinflammatory response and host defense factors.

Summary: In this study, the distinct patterns of NK cell infiltration and apoptosis during the progression of acute myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke were explored. It was found that NK cell abundance correlated positively with apoptosis in both diseases, and several apoptosis-related genes showed negative correlation with NK cell abundance. These findings provide novel insights into the mechanisms underlying the patterns of NK cell abundance and apoptosis in acute myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke.

Summary: This study characterized the phenotype and function of peripheral blood NK cells in prostate cancer patients, finding that they promote inflammatory angiogenesis in endothelial cells and modulate monocytes and macrophages towards an M2-like phenotype. These findings suggest a potential use of peripheral blood NK cell profiling in prostate cancer patients.

Summary: The systematic review and meta-analysis showed that endoscopic techniques, including self-expandable stents, clipping, and tissue sealants, are effective in closing post-bariatric surgery leaks and fistulas. The success rates were high for stents (92%), clips (67.1% for OTSC system) and fibrin glue (92.8-100%). Complications were relatively low, indicating that these endoscopic methods are suitable for properly selected patients.

Summary: The study found that exposure to BPA led to reduced chemotactic capacity in neutrophils, increased phagocytic activity in female cells, decreased phagocytic activity in male cells, and elevated expression of CD14, CD284 (TLR4), and NET formation in both sexes. Additionally, BPA intensified NO production and iNOS expression in both sexes, and increased expression of PI3K-Akt pathway proteins in male neutrophils.

Summary: Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a severe syndrome with a high short-term mortality rate. This study found that the risk of ACLF remains high in cirrhotic patients hospitalized for acute gastrointestinal bleeding, even after successful control of bleeding. Elevated creatinine level, MELD score, and the presence of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) on admission were identified as the best predictors of ACLF in these patients during hospitalization.

Summary: Magnification endoscopy and methylene blue chromoendoscopy can effectively detect intestinal metaplasia (IM). Methylene blue staining is more accurate in indicating IM compared to pit pattern and vessel evaluation. Methylene blue chromoendoscopy can serve as a screening method for detecting advanced OLGIM stages.
