Summary: This study analyzed the effects of melatonin and strontium ranelate on osteoarthritis using a rat model, finding that the combination of the two drugs had chondroprotective effects. However, melatonin alone showed better biochemical parameters, while the drugs had no significant impact on the histology of the liver and kidneys.

Summary: Air pollution is a significant factor in global disease burden and is associated with various diseases, including cardiovascular disease. This study explores whether prolonged exposure to air pollution is linked to an increased incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The study concludes that long-term exposure to PM2.5 may increase the risk of VTE in the general population in Sweden.

Summary: Venous thromboembolism is a significant contributor to maternal mortality in the United States, with the overall maternal mortality rate increasing in recent years, likely leading to an increased risk of venous thromboembolism. Experts suggest that improving clinical care is necessary to reduce this risk, and enhancing prophylaxis and prevention may provide the greatest benefit. However, there is controversy on the best approach to improve prophylaxis, with concerns over safety, efficacy, and cost.

Summary: VTE, consisting of DVT and PE, is a major cause of cardiovascular disease. Current diagnosis and treatment guidance for VTE are limited, and there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms and pathways responsible for the occurrence of observed alterations. The application of metabolomics profiling may play a significant role in early diagnosis and management, but more research is needed to fully understand VTE-related metabolic changes.

Summary: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) in pregnancy is a significant cause of maternal mortality. Differentiating between physiological changes and symptoms of VTE can be challenging, and timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial. Systemic anticoagulation is a key aspect of VTE prevention and therapy.

Summary: This study investigated the association between oral health status, oral hygiene behavior, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The study found that periodontitis and an increased number of missing teeth were associated with an increased risk of VTE, while tooth brushing frequency ≥3 times/day and dental scaling were associated with a decreased risk of VTE.

Summary: This clinical practice guideline provides evidence-based recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of hypoparathyroidism. Evaluating serum PTH within 12 to 24 hours post total thyroidectomy can predict the development of permanent postsurgical hypoparathyroidism. Summary: This systematic review examined the accuracy and stability of patient-specific osteosynthesis (PSI) in orthognathic surgery using three-dimensional outcome analysis. It compared PSI to conventional osteosynthesis and computer-aided designed and manufactured splints or wafers. The results showed that PSI was more accurate than conventional osteosynthesis with CAD/CAM splint or wafer. However, the clinical significance of the improved accuracy has not been confirmed. The literature on multi-piece Le Fort I, mandibular osteotomies, and genioplasty procedure using PSI is limited and lacks randomized controlled trials.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between TMD, pain, jaw and masticatory function at different stages of orthognathic surgical treatment. The results showed that orthognathic surgery did not have a negative impact on TMD, and the jaw function and pain levels were similar to the control group at 24 months follow-up. However, the masticatory function was affected by the surgery and required a longer recovery time. Furthermore, it was confirmed that pain and TMD were associated with limitations in jaw function and impacts on masticatory function.

Summary: The literature lacks a reliable holistic approach for the three-dimensional assessment of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) including all three adaptive processes. Therefore, this study proposes and evaluates the reliability of a semi-automatic approach for a 3D assessment of the TMJ from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The results show that the proposed approach demonstrates good to excellent reliability for the holistic 3D assessment of the TMJ including all three adaptive processes.
