Summary: This study found that the use of TXA in total ankle replacement can safely and effectively reduce perioperative blood loss, early wound infection, and poor healing, without increasing the risk of symptomatic venous thromboembolism. TXA application in total ankle replacement helps improve ankle function and patient quality of life during the early stage.

Summary: This study compared the outcomes of total ankle arthroplasty (TAA), tibiotalar (TT) arthrodesis, and tibiotalocalcaneal (TTC) arthrodesis from the patients' point of view. The results showed that TAA had better outcomes compared to TT, while there was no significant difference between TT and TTC. The patients' perceived recovery state was also similar among the different surgical groups.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the long-term outcomes of primary BOX TAA with over ten years of follow-up. The results showed high patient satisfaction at long-term follow-up, but lower implant survival rate compared to modern knee and hip implants.

Summary: This study evaluated the mid- to long-term functional outcomes of TAA in stiff ankles, finding that preoperative ROM was predictive of postoperative gait function. Patients with stiff ankles showed the greatest absolute and relative improvements in objective function after TAA.

Summary: Men and women with end-stage ankle arthritis benefited similarly from total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis. Small differences in pain and function between men and women largely disappeared when controlling for potential confounding variables. Both total ankle replacement and ankle arthrodesis remain good treatment options for end-stage ankle arthritis in both men and women.

Summary: This study analyzed data from TAA patients and identified significant risk factors for early failure, including chronic pulmonary disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, hyperlipidemia, dementia, and alcohol abuse. Surgical indications and preoperative patient counseling should take these factors into consideration.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated 111 cases of revision procedures for failed total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) and compared clinical, radiologic, and patient-reported outcomes. The study found lower failure rates, increased short-term survival, and better clinical outcomes for revision arthroplasty and tibiotalocalcaneal fusion compared to ankle arthrodesis. Revision arthroplasty appears to be a promising solution for treating failed TAA with a lower risk of subsequent adjacent joint degeneration.

Summary: This anatomical study describes the relationship between the superficial fibular nerve (SFN) and sural nerve and the lateral malleolus. The study found significant inter-individual and intra-individual variability in the nerves' patterns. Understanding the anatomical variations of these nerves is crucial in reducing the risk of nerve injury during surgery.
