Summary: The synthesis and structural characterization of the first cyclometallated platinum(II) complex coordinating a potassium cation in a sandwich arrangement via two 15-crown-5 ether rings within the same molecule are reported. The importance of choosing the right diphosphane ligand in obtaining double nuclear platinacycles is highlighted. Density functional theory calculations reveal similar affinities for both dppm and vdpp derivatives to coordinate potassium cations.

Summary: Crown ethers are cyclic polyethers that can bind to specific size and charge cations based on their ring size, donor atoms, and geometry. The introduction of other donor atoms can enhance their host-guest chemistry. Phosphorus donors can be added to the crown ethers to create hybrid ligands that selectively bind to different types of cations and transition metal centers. This review focuses on the synthesis and catalytic aspects of crown ethers, aza-crown ethers, and thia-crown ethers appended with phosphorus donors on the periphery.

Summary: The combination of Nobel macrocycle-crown ether and star macrocycle-pillararenes offers significant advantages in organic synthesis and material science, providing hybrid systems with flexible/rigid structural architecture, induced planar chirality, negative cooperative effect, and multiple fused cyclic hosts. The synthesis and preparation of these hybrid systems can be achieved through various bonding methods, leading to applications in molecular recognition, ion channels, and smart materials. Researchers are encouraged to explore academic and technical issues related to topological structures and applied functions in this emerging field of fused macrocycles.

Summary: This study found that the sensitivity of supramolecular assemblies based on OEG to guanidinium-containing species is influenced by their cyclic and linear forms, with the cyclic form having a higher binding constant. By designing crown ether derivatives with different topologies, manipulation of the relationship between supramolecular solutes, water, and guanidinium salts is possible, providing an alternative strategy for fabricating thermal-responsive systems in ionic medium.

Summary: Effective separation and recovery of chemically similar transplutonium elements from adjacent actinides is challenging in spent fuel reprocessing. In this study, the coordination mechanism between transplutonium elements and crown ether macrocyclic ligands was systematically investigated. The results provide theoretical clues for the design and development of macrocycle ligands for the in-group separation of transplutonium elements.

Summary: A series of Rh-I complexes with cationic diphosphinometal ligands (PMPn+) were synthesized, and the impact of Rh-I -> Mn+ interactions on other ligands coordinated to the Rh-I center was studied. It was found that the Rh-CO bond strength in square pyramidal [(PMP)Rh(CO)X](n+)-type complexes (X = Cl, H) is primarily influenced by the charge of the metalloligand. Computational analysis of octahedral [(PMP)Rh(CO)(2)H](n+) model complexes indicated a strengthening of the Rh-CO bond trans to the metalloligand with increasing atomic number of the metalloligand.

Summary: The azobenzene-bridged 15-crown-5 ether was successfully utilized as a photoswitchable cocatalyst to modulate the catalytic activity of potassium acetate in the ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide. By alternating exposure to daylight and UV light, the ion pair-like structure of KOAc was transformed on-demand, resulting in effective modulation of the polymerization speed from slow to fast.

Summary: Crown ethers are valuable in the fields of supramolecular chemistry and crystal engineering due to their significant conformational flexibility and rotational symmetry. This study synthesized and characterized four supramolecular compounds and found that the crystal structure, phase transition, and dielectric properties are significantly influenced by the size of the crown-ether rings. The research also discussed the coordination mode of metal ions with crown ethers, the compatibility between metal ions and crown-ether rings in terms of size, and the effects of crown-ether disorder on dielectric permittivity during phase transitions.

Summary: The study successfully achieved selective coordination-driven supramolecular synthesis by introducing bridging halide X ions, resulting in the generation of bimetallic connecting nodes with a potential coordination angle of approximately 120 degrees. The tetranuclear metallacycles obtained from the reaction exhibited high emission quantum yields in the solid state at room temperature, with photophysical properties suggesting a ligand B-centered triplet origin for their luminescence.
