The first enantioselective synthesis of 4-azapodophyllotwdn derivatives by partial transfer hydrogenation of lactone-fused quinolines was achieved using a chiral Bronsted acid catalyst. This reaction was extended to a large scope of substrates with good yields and enantioselectivities.
