Summary: A practical and efficient method for the construction of poly substituted oxazoles was developed using a catalytic amount of potassium iodide and TBHP as the green oxidant via amidation followed by intramolecular oxidative cyclization of enaminone derivatives under mild reaction conditions. The attractive feature of this method is the simultaneous oxidation of benzylic CeH bond and dehydrogenation of enaminone in one pot under base free conditions.

Summary: An efficient and solvent-controlled diastereodivergent thia-Michael/aldol cascade synthesis of tetrahydrothiophenes (THTs) has been developed. The cascade reaction is catalyzed by polystyrene-supported amine to afford trisubstituted tetrahydrothiophene derivatives in excellent yields and diastereoselectivities. A broad range of substrate tolerance is examined under two different solvents to access a library of diastereomeric THTs. Moreover, the polymer-supported amines can be recovered and reused for the cascade reaction.

Summary: In this study, medicinally significant 3-monosubstituted tetrahydroquinolines and 1,2-dihydroquinolines were controllably constructed via a redox-neutral vinylogous cascade condensation/[1,5]-hydride transfer/cyclization process in ethanol, showcasing novel features such as green solvent and metal-free conditions. Additionally, the electrophilicity and nucleophilicity of alpha,alpha-dicyanoalkenes were effectively utilized as hydride acceptors and gamma-exclusive nucleophiles.

Summary: Phosphatidylserine lipids, anionic molecules found in eukaryotic plasma membranes, play essential roles in cellular physiology. Understanding the altered distribution of phosphatidylserine, particularly in apoptotic cancer cells, has important implications for biomarker development. This study utilizes a graph algorithm to study the dynamics of water-mediated lipid clusters at the interface of a model bilayer, providing insights into the behavior of phosphatidylserine in the presence of cholesterol.

Summary: A novel method was developed to prepare a semi-interpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN) hydrogel with improved properties, based on sodium alginate (SA) and polyacrylamide (PAM). The formation mechanism of a layered structure through hydrogen bonds (HBs) and the key role of HBs in enhancing self-healing of the hydrogel were systematically characterized. The semi-IPN structure resulted in a high tensile strength of 266 kPa and broadened the functionality and variety of hydrogels.

Summary: Annulations of unsaturated systems through C-H activation are a powerful tool for producing multicyclic scaffolds. Employing a dual coordination strategy with coordinating centers in both annulation partners can lead to remarkable selectivities. In this study, we report a Pd-catalyzed regioselective rollover cascade dual C-H annulation for constructing phenanthrene scaffolds. Mechanism studies, including control experiments, KIE, and deuteration experiments, were conducted, and downstream transformations and scaled-up reactions were performed to evaluate the robustness of the transformation.

Summary: We proposed a novel disconnection approach to synthesize fused tetrahydroquinolines through a visible light-mediated radical (4 + 2) annulation reaction between alkyl N-(acyloxy)-phthalimides and N-substituted maleimides using DIPEA as an additive. The reaction involves a photoactivated electron donor-acceptor complex between alkyl NHPI esters and DIPEA, and regioselective tetrahydroquinolines were obtained. This metal-and catalyst-free methodology exhibits a wide scope, good functional group tolerance, and detailed mechanistic investigations were performed.

Summary: In this study, CNFs were prepared from pre-hydrolyzed eucalyptus raw materials, and the impact of prehydrolysis conditions on the micro-structure of CNFs was investigated. Higher prehydrolysis temperature led to increased crystallinity of CNFs, while prolonged prehydrolysis treatment resulted in the formation of numerous nanopores on the surface of CNFs by breaking hydrogen bonds.
