Summary: This study investigates the adaptability of left-handed G4 structures towards the presence of bulges, presenting the structural characteristics of left-handed G4s accommodating varying numbers of bulges. Bulges in left-handed G4s exhibit distinct features compared to those in right-handed G4s, and elucidation of the intricate structural details may enhance understanding of the potential roles and limitations of these unique structures.

Summary: In vivo, left-handed DNA duplex (Z-DNA) is mainly formed in the region of DNA with alternating purine pyrimidine (APP) sequence and plays important biological roles. The study found that under strong topological constraint, non-APP sequences can also form stable left-handed DNA duplex as APP sequences. The thermal stability difference between Z-form and B-form is smaller for APP sequences, which may explain why Z-DNA forms preferentially for APP sequences.

Summary: Left-handed G quadruplexes (LHG4) have been discovered as a new type of G quadruplexes. Our study demonstrates that specific backbone torsion angles can differentiate between right-handed and left-handed G quadruplexes as well as other DNA structures. This analysis provides insights into the conditions of formation for LHG4s and their potential biological relevance.

Summary: Cryo neutron crystallography was used to investigate the hydrogen bonding patterns of water molecules around a left-handed Z-DNA duplex, revealing orientations of first-shell and second-shell water molecules and uncovering hydration motifs within the minor groove, on the convex surface, and bridging nucleobase and phosphate oxygen atoms. The high-resolution neutron density visualized for the first time pinpointed the orientations of water molecules in contact with the DNA, highlighting unexpected orientations and surprising stabilization effects of exocyclic amino groups of guanine and cytosine. This structure provides the most detailed view to date of DNA solvation in the solid-state unaffected by metal ions or polyamines.

Summary: This study demonstrates that ligands specific for right-handed G4s do not bind specifically to left-handed G4s, as the presence of tight T-capping in left-handed G4s hinders access to the tetrads.

Summary: This work presents a unique low-cost medium-entropy alloy (MEA) with ultra-high strength and ductility. The MEA exhibits a duplex partially recrystallized microstructure consisting of FCC and BCC phases, along with high density dislocations and nano-precipitates. It shows excellent yield strength and uniform elongation at both room temperature and cryogenic temperatures, as well as a high ultimate tensile strength at 77K. The excellent cryogenic mechanical properties can be attributed to various factors including high density dislocations, ultra-fine grains, nano-precipitates, Luders deformation, hetero-deformation-induced hardening, and deformation-induced martensitic transformation.

Summary: This article proposes a novel reconfigurable reflectarray (RRA) with 1 bit beam scanning and switchable linear, left-handed (LH) circular, or right-handed (RH) circular polarization. A 10 x 10 RRA was prototyped with each unit cell using only two p-i-n diodes to implement dual functions. The fabricated RRA can experimentally demonstrate 2-D beam scanning and polarization switching among 45 degrees/135 degrees linear polarization and LH/RH circular polarization.

Summary: There is a lack of objective data on the advantages or disadvantages of handedness in surgery. This study analyzed the performance of left-hand and right-hand dominant surgeons on laparoscopic tasks and found significant differences in task completion time. Left-hand dominant surgeons had smaller variability and shorter delta times in task performance.

Summary: The rapid development of DNA-based assembly methods allows for the creation of organized nanomaterials with versatile capabilities. By creating inorganic, silica-based replicas of 3D periodic DNA-NP structures, the formed nanomaterials demonstrate excellent resiliency and stability under extreme conditions. This approach opens up new possibilities for the use of DNA assembly strategies in creating organized nanomaterials for a broad range of operational conditions.

Summary: Alcohol dehydrogenases are enzymes that use cofactors for oxidation or reduction reactions of alcohols or carbonyl compounds. They are utilized in green chemistry and have applications in the production of pharmaceuticals. Recombinant enzymes have solved the challenge of producing purified enzymes in large quantities. Engineered alcohol dehydrogenases have been used in asymmetric synthesis in industry. Various methods have been established for regenerating expensive cofactors to make the enzymatic process more efficient and economically viable.
