Summary: The synthetic hybrid promoter Pcc was constructed and applied to optimize the cellulase system of T. reesei for efficient saccharification of corncob residues. The Pcc promoter drove strong gene expression and significantly increased the activities of beta-glucosidase and endoglucanase. Moreover, the Pcc promoter allowed co-expression of two genes to enhance cellulase activity and improve saccharification efficiency towards acid-pretreated and delignified corncob residues.

Summary: This work presents a photoluminescent supramolecular assembly, involving an energy transfer process between silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) and a host-guest system, which has potential applications in various fields. The interaction between a cationic guest and a cucurbit[8]uril host was explored to modulate the fluorescence property of the acceptor. Blue-emitting Ag NCs were prepared using different templates and were found to act as donors in the energy transfer process, resulting in emission color tuning when mixed with the acceptor. Surface ligands were found to play a crucial role in modulating the energy transfer efficiency. Overall, this noncovalent strategy has the potential to be used in advanced sustainable light-harvesting, white light-emitting, and anti-counterfeiting materials.

Summary: The reaction between 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-o-benzoquinone 1 and o-phenylenediamine produced a variety of condensed 10H-quinoxalino[3,2,1-kl]phenoxazin-10-one heteropentacyclic derivatives. The reaction of 1 with N-phenyl-o-phenylenediamine unexpectedly resulted in the formation of phenazine-like compounds and a new spiro[1,3]dioxole-2,2 ' -furanyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazole derivative. The molecular structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed by NMR, mass spectra, and X-ray crystallography.

Summary: Tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in tumor progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance. Remodeling the TME by using mesoporous nanodrug delivery systems (MNDDSs) has shown great potential as an effective strategy for targeted therapy. MNDDSs possess advantages such as drug loading ability, tumor accumulation, controllability, and sustained release of guest molecules.

Summary: In this study, experimental and theoretical methods were used to investigate the effect of differences in the deposition order of components on the state of silver in bimetallic iron-silver samples based on mordenite. The results showed that different varieties of silver were formed in each silver-containing sample, which varied in size and type compared to the other samples. The formation of large silver nanoparticles on the outer surface of mordenite was explained by the redox interaction between Ag+-Fe2+ and the selectivity of ion exchange. The local environment of silver in the studied samples also varied, with different silver species present. Partially charged silver clusters were formed inside the mordenite channels due to partial reduction of Ag+ and subsequent agglomeration. Most of the silver in the zeolite existed in a cationic state attached to the mordenite framework through electrostatic forces, and the arrangement of cations in the side pockets allowed for free transport channels, which is favorable for catalytic and adsorption applications.

Summary: O-GlcNAcylation, a simple but essential protein post-translational modification, plays critical roles in cellular processes and is closely associated with various diseases. However, the low stoichiometry and reversibility properties of O-GlcNAcylation pose challenges for system-wide research. In this study, a novel method combining multi-comparative thermal proteome profiling was developed for O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) substrate discovery. By profiling and comparing the melting curves of proteins under different treatments, proteins with significantly altered stabilities induced by OGT and uridine-5'-diphosphate N-acetylglucosamine were identified and new O-GlcNAcylated proteins were uncovered.

Summary: A novel congruent melting compound Cs2Zn4V4O15 has been synthesized by conventional high-temperature solid-state reactions. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, C2/c (No. 15) space group, with [VO4] units and [V2O7] dimers constructing the final three-dimensional framework by binding to a one-dimensional zinc oxide chain. The optical properties and thermal stability of the compound have been studied, and the relationship between the structure and properties has been analyzed through first-principles calculations.

Summary: A series of new substituted triazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidine derivatives linked to thienopyrimidine ring system were prepared as possible nucleobases analogs, which were further glycosylated to form corresponding hybrid N-1-glycosides and thioglycoside analogues. The synthesized glycosyl heterocycles exhibited promising cytotoxic activities against HepG-2 and MCF-7 human cancer cells, with compounds 7a, 8b, 9b, 9a, and 7b showing activities comparable to doxorubicin for HepG-2 cell line. Furthermore, docking simulation of the thienopyrimidine analogues against EGFR kinase provided a binding model that could potentially lead to the discovery of further anticancer agents.

Summary: Alcohol dehydrogenases are enzymes that use cofactors for oxidation or reduction reactions of alcohols or carbonyl compounds. They are utilized in green chemistry and have applications in the production of pharmaceuticals. Recombinant enzymes have solved the challenge of producing purified enzymes in large quantities. Engineered alcohol dehydrogenases have been used in asymmetric synthesis in industry. Various methods have been established for regenerating expensive cofactors to make the enzymatic process more efficient and economically viable.
