Summary: Elevated levels of MMP-8 and Lactoferrin in periodontal pockets of periodontitis patients were found to be the major source of these biomarkers, with a potential entry route through salivary glands. Additionally, increased probing pocket depth was positively correlated with high levels of MMP-8 and Lactoferrin.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated the long-term outcomes of regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) for nonvital mature permanent teeth. The study found that REPs had a high success rate and promoted healing of apical periodontitis. The periapical index (PAI) and changes in periapical radiolucency (PARL) area were used to assess the clinical and radiographic outcomes.

Summary: Periodontitis is a bacterial disease affecting the tooth attachment apparatus, and Metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) is a validated biomarker that can aid in clinical diagnosis. This study evaluated the performance of active MMP-8 immunotest versus total MMP-8 ELISA in diagnosing and assessing the severity of periodontitis at the site level, with results showing both methods have good diagnostic precision and can effectively differentiate between healthy and diseased sites.

Summary: Pulp revascularization is an effective method for treating immature teeth with periapical disease, where bleeding is induced to form a blood clot that promotes root development. However, the apical barrier technique and apexification are still necessary for some cases. A meta-analysis concluded that pulp revascularization has no significant advantages over other treatments.

Summary: The study examined the potential of salivary aMMP-8 level testing as a diagnostic tool for periodontal disease at different stages, with higher levels found in the P-IV group compared to others, and significantly higher levels in the P-III and gingivitis groups compared to the healthy group.

Summary: The study investigated the levels of MMP-1 and MMP-8 in GCF during different healing stages after root coverage procedures using MCAT with SCTG or CM. Results showed significant changes in MMP-1, MMP-8, and SFFR values after both techniques. Correlations were found between MMP concentration differences and clinical outcomes, suggesting that the choice of augmentative material may impact MMP secretion dynamics.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the cytokines in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of the teeth opposing dental implants and 3-unit fixed partial dentures (FPDs). Participants were divided into dental implants group and 3-unit FPDs group, and their occlusal loading and GCF cytokine levels were evaluated. The results showed that teeth opposing implants had higher levels of IL-10, IL-17, and RANK in GCF, which were associated with occlusion force. IL-10 might reflect a higher occlusion force in dental implants.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the changes in IL-8 and MMP-9 levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) after regenerative surgery using deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and collagen membrane (GTR), either independently or with postoperative administration of antibiotics. The study found no significant differences in IL-8 and MMP-9 levels between the groups at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 months. The changes in IL-8 were significant in the antibiotic group but not in the non-antibiotic group during the follow-up period. IL-8 and MMP-9 were positively correlated throughout the study.

Summary: The study investigated concentrations of MMP-8 and aMMP-8 in oral fluids, along with microbiological characteristics, revealing correlations between total MMP-8, aMMP-8 levels, and severity of periodontal destruction. Total MMP-8 was identified as a preferable method for differentiating periodontal grading.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether the baseline MMP-8 level in GCF could predict the outcome of NSPT in patients with periodontitis after 3 months. A systematic search and selection process was conducted, and the results showed variations in the predictive ability of baseline GCF MMP-8. However, there was consistency in the average reduction in PPD after 3 months.

Summary: This study assessed the influence of non-surgical periodontal therapy on the levels of biomarkers in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of periodontally healthy, Stage III periodontitis non-smoker, and smoker patients. The results showed that the levels of biomarkers decreased significantly after non-surgical periodontal therapy, suggesting their potential role in the inflammatory process and early diagnosis.

Summary: This study evaluated the levels of neuropeptides neurokinin A (NKA) and substance P (SP) in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis (SIP) using a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that there was no significant association between NKA and SP levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of individuals with SIP. This suggests that further research is needed in this area to better understand the relationship between pulpal disorders and NKA.

Summary: The study showed that mechanical vibration at 150 rpm could transiently reduce the osteogenic potential of human periodontal ligament stem cells and promote the formation of PDL-like tissue. This suggests that 150-rpm MVS may be a therapeutic approach to prevent ankylosis and improve PDL healing after tooth replantation and transplantation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the volume percentage of filling voids in root canals prepared with a newly introduced rotary system, TruNatomy, and obturated by the modified continuous wave (CW) or single cone (SC) filling technique. The results showed that the SC group had a lower volume percentage of filling voids compared to the CW group.

Summary: This randomized controlled clinical trial compared the clinical efficacy and outcome of a sealer-based obturation technique with calcium silicate sealers and a continuous wave of condensation technique with a resin-based sealer. The study found no significant differences between the two techniques and noted that sealer extrusion and postoperative pain can negatively impact the prognosis of endodontic treatment.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of ultrasonic vibration and thermo-hydrodynamic obturation (VibraTHO) using two different root canal sealers with the single-cone technique and a calcium silicate-based root canal sealer in complex root canal anatomies. The results suggest that the VibraTHO technique using GuttaFlow 2 may be more suitable for anatomically complex root canal systems, while the VibraTHO technique using Endoseal TCS has limited impact on improving root filling quality.

Summary: This study evaluated the microtensile bond strength of calcium silicate-based sealers and epoxy resin-based sealer, depending on the use of phosphoric acid (PA) etching before immediate resin restoration. The results showed that the bond strength of water-washed dentin surfaces in the calcium silicate-based sealer groups did not differ significantly from those of the control surfaces, whereas the PA-pretreated surfaces exhibited relatively low bond strength.

Summary: In this study, the authors investigated the effect of icariin on reducing root resorption and promoting functional healing of denuded roots in a rat model of tooth replantation. The results showed that icariin had a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on the differentiation of osteoclasts and enhanced osteogenic activity in stem cells. Micro-CT imaging and histological analysis confirmed the effectiveness of icariin in reducing root resorption and improving tooth retention and survival.
