Summary: This review discusses the role of clinical management, geriatric evaluation, and therapeutic approaches in elderly patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Elderly HNSCC patients are often frail with multiple comorbidities and may receive suboptimal treatment. The review summarizes different strategies for the clinical management of elderly HNSCC patients.

Summary: This study investigated the outcomes of muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients with positive surgical margins following radical surgery. It found that half of these patients will experience recurrence within a year and eventually die from the disease. Adjuvant chemotherapy may have a potential role in this patient population, but further clinical trials are needed.

Summary: The latest developments in the management of head and neck cancer involve the use of artificial intelligence and radiomics, particularly delta radiomics, for patient stratification and treatment evaluation. Radiomics enables the extraction of data from imaging modalities to evaluate tumor features and guide treatment decisions. Delta radiomics, which assesses feature variations over time, is shown to have superior value for predicting treatment outcomes and stratifying patients into risk categories. This work aims to review and evaluate the role of delta radiomics in head and neck cancer for tumor response and normal-tissue toxicity predictions, as well as highlight the significance of holomics for comprehensive patient characterization and treatment optimization.

Summary: Chondrosarcoma is a rare disease with a relatively good prognosis. In this case, a 30-year-old patient was treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Despite the early loss from the oncological record, there was no recurrence of the disease. Treatment decisions should consider tumor size, resection margins, and potential adverse reactions to adjuvant therapy.

Summary: The perioperative mortality rate of head and neck cancer was approximately 1%, with causes of death including acute heart failure, rupture of large blood vessels in the neck, and respiratory failure. Risk factors for perioperative mortality included preoperative radiotherapy, previous chemotherapy, hypertension, diabetes, advanced clinical stage, and postoperative infection.

Summary: This study investigated the clinicopathological features of head and neck dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (HNDFSP) and identified the expression of clinically relevant indicators. The results showed that HNDFSP is rare and challenging to control locally, with a worse prognosis using current treatment strategies. Wide local excision and long-term follow-up are needed, while radiotherapy may improve the prognosis of patients with HNDFSP.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the epidemiological characteristics and prognostic factors of head and neck lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC). A retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox regression models were used to assess overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Nomograms were established to predict OS and CSS in patients with nasopharyngeal LEC, and the effects of treatment were compared using the restricted mean survival time (RMST). The results showed that head and neck LEC had a favorable prognosis, and radiotherapy played a significant role in managing nasopharyngeal LEC patients influenced by multiple prognostic factors.

Summary: This study examined the association between hypomagnesemia and survival in patients with head and neck cancer receiving concurrent chemoradiation with cisplatin and/or carboplatin. It was found that higher frequency and severity of hypomagnesemia during treatment were significantly associated with shorter survival, independent of other known prognostic factors. Further prospective studies are necessary to investigate the impact of preventing hypomagnesemia on survival in this patient population.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of 447 patients with HNSCC revealed that HPV negativity, high neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, disease-free interval ≤6 months, and poor performance status were predictors of worse survival. Furthermore, the majority of recurrences and metastases occurred within 6 months to 2 years after treatment completion.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the need for revision surgery, long-term efficacy, and satisfaction in chronic rhinosinusitis patients who had undergone maxillary sinus operation with either balloon sinuplasty or traditional endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) technique. The results showed that although the patient groups expressed equal satisfaction and change in symptoms after the operations, the need for revision surgery was higher after balloon sinuplasty than after ESS.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of the lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of Bell's palsy and SSNHL. The results showed a decrease in the incidence of Bell's palsy during the pandemic, while no significant change was observed in the incidence of SSNHL. This suggests a possible association between Bell's palsy and transmittable respiratory tract pathogens.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive clinical, genomic, and transcriptomic analysis of primary ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma (GCOC). The results provide the first comprehensive molecular atlas for primary GCOC, including previously identified CTNNB1 mutation and novel alterations in MAP3K, EP300, and the 22q11.21 region. The transcriptome analysis reveals significant involvement of cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. More GCOC cases should be compared to validate these findings for accurate clinical guidance.

Summary: This study compares the outcomes of transoral resections using the da Vinci SP and da Vinci Xi systems for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). The results indicate that the da Vinci SP system has advantages in terms of reduced docking and console times, as well as improved rates of wide negative resection margins. However, there were no significant differences in complication rates or postoperative functional outcomes between the two systems.
