Summary: This review focuses on the current development of advanced imaging technologies aiming to predict the treatment response in cancer therapy, with special interest in systems that provide rapid and noninvasive assessment of pharmacokinetics and tumor microenvironment. It also provides an overview of the emerging artificial intelligence technology and machine learning in medical imaging applications, discussing the current status, practical significance, and future challenges. Ultimately, the authors hope that this review will inspire research interest in molecular imaging and precision medicine.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the clinical and pathological characteristics, treatment details, and oncological outcomes of 139 patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) treated with Trans Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS). The results showed that TORS is a safe and effective treatment option with good oncological outcomes.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life after surgical treatment of brain tumors. The results showed that the greatest reduction in quality of life after surgery was observed in patients with low-grade glial tumors and extracerebral tumors, while after 30 days, there was an improvement in quality of life for all patients. The histopathological diagnosis of different tumor types had an impact on patients' quality of life.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to assess the effectiveness of different treatment strategies for anastomotic leak after oesophagectomy. The study found that less invasive primary treatment resulted in fewer complications. Therefore, less invasive primary treatment may lead to better clinical outcomes, but further studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study aimed to compare longitudinal patient-reported outcomes between breast cancer patients undergoing lumpectomy and mastectomy, finding that mastectomy patients experienced significantly greater decreases in breast satisfaction, psychosocial well-being, and sexual well-being over time compared with lumpectomy patients, with lumpectomy patients more likely to return to baseline scores at 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Understanding these differences can inform early intervention strategies to prevent long-term morbidities.

Summary: This study evaluated the post-treatment quality of life in Sri Lankan breast cancer patients and found that factors such as sexual functioning, breast and arm symptoms, and hair loss contributed to a poorer quality of life, while the impact on overall health status was minimal. The type of surgery did not seem to be significantly associated with quality of life. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to explore these factors in more depth.

Summary: This study adapted the Speech Handicap Index (SHI) to German and compared it to the German Voice-Handicap-Index (VHI) in assessing the quality of life for oral cancer patients with posttreatment speech difficulties. The results showed that the SHI reliably assessed speech intelligibility and articulation-related quality of life, with a significantly greater responsiveness compared to the VHI in capturing experienced handicap in speech impairments.

Summary: This study found that many oral cancer patients lack information about the potential physical and psychological consequences of surgery, and that this lack of information is significantly correlated with increased perception of posttherapeutic disorders. Patients' quality of life may benefit from having their information needs adequately fulfilled during the diagnosis and treatment of oral cancer.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term quality of life in de novo stage IV breast cancer patients who received either loco-regional treatment (LRT) and systemic treatment (ST) or ST alone. The study found that patients who had LRT had similar physical and mental health outcomes compared to those who received ST only after living for more than 3 years. Additionally, the quality of life in de novo stage IV BC patients was found to be worse compared to stage I-III BC patients.

Summary: Oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) are associated with an increased risk of oral cancer, and an expert group updated the nomenclature and classification of OPMDs, adding oral lichenoid lesions and oral manifestations of 'chronic graft-versus-host disease' to the list. It is recommended to establish a global research consortium to study the natural history of OPMDs based on the proposed classification.

Summary: This study investigated the malignant transformation of oral proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, finding that females and gingiva were more commonly affected. The pooled proportion of malignant transformation was 43.87%, with conventional squamous cell carcinoma being the most frequent histopathological subtype. No conclusive results were found between malignant transformation and sex, age, tobacco, or alcohol consumption.

Summary: Oral Medicine is a young dental specialty that deals with orofacial conditions not directly related to common tooth pathologies like dental caries or periodontal diseases. Survey data from practitioners in Europe and Australia show that clinical practice in Oral Medicine commonly involves immune-mediated disorders, potentially malignant disorders, oral mucosal infections, and chronic pain disorders, with geographical variabilities.

Summary: This study investigated the levels of certain salivary cytokines as potential biomarkers for distinguishing between oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), oral leukoplakia (OL), and healthy individuals. The findings suggest that IL-6, IL-8, TNF-alpha, HCC-1, and PF-4 in saliva may be useful in differentiating between these conditions, with IL-6 and TNF-alpha potentially indicating the progression of OSCC, especially in the presence of neck metastases.

Summary: This study aims to compare and describe the composition and diversity of the oral microbiome in patients with homogeneous leucoplakia, proliferative verrucous leukoplakia, oral squamous cell carcinoma, and OSCC preceded by PVL. The number of bacterial species was lower in cancer patients, with Fusobacteriota being the dominant group. PVL and PVL-OSCC patients had a higher abundance of Campilobacterota and lower Proteobacteria compared to other groups. This is the first study comparing oral microbiome alterations in these groups, and further research is needed.

Summary: This study investigated the pathophysiologic differences between proliferative verrucous leukoplakia-associated oral squamous cell carcinoma (PVL-OSCC) and non-PVL-OSCC through transcriptomic and DNA methylation analyses. The results showed that PVL-OSCC patients had lower expression of cancer-related genes and hypermethylation of the promoter region of many genes, suggesting that DNA methylation could be a regulatory mechanism.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive clinical, genomic, and transcriptomic analysis of primary ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma (GCOC). The results provide the first comprehensive molecular atlas for primary GCOC, including previously identified CTNNB1 mutation and novel alterations in MAP3K, EP300, and the 22q11.21 region. The transcriptome analysis reveals significant involvement of cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. More GCOC cases should be compared to validate these findings for accurate clinical guidance.

Summary: This study compares the outcomes of transoral resections using the da Vinci SP and da Vinci Xi systems for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). The results indicate that the da Vinci SP system has advantages in terms of reduced docking and console times, as well as improved rates of wide negative resection margins. However, there were no significant differences in complication rates or postoperative functional outcomes between the two systems.
