We investigate the influence of second-order coupling in femtosecond-laser-written zigzag waveguide arrays, where the ratio A between second- and first-order coupling constants is adjusted from Delta=0.0 to Delta=2.8. Propagation patterns are observed directly via color center fluorescence. (C) 2008 Optical Society of America
