Summary: Single-photon sources are crucial for photonic quantum technologies. By using two laser pulses that are off-resonant with the neutral exciton states, we demonstrate a method for generating indistinguishable single photons with optically controlled polarization. This scheme achieves high polarization, high single-photon purity, and indistinguishability.

Summary: sEVs are nanovesicles with a size of 30-200 nm enriched with unique cargoes of nucleic acids, lipids, and proteins. They play a critical role in cell-to-cell communication but the mechanism of sEVs biogenesis and uptake is still unknown due to the lack of suitable imaging technologies. This review highlights the application of single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) in sEV biology and discusses different labeling strategies to study sEV biogenesis and their biomolecular interaction with recipient cells.

Summary: A new pair of multifunctional Zn(II)-Dy(III) enantiomers, based on chiral Schiff-base ligands, were synthesized and characterized. Magnetic studies showed that one of the enantiomers behaves as a single-molecule magnet. Both enantiomers exhibited chiroptical activity and circularly polarized luminescence in solution. The chiral Zn(II)-Dy(III) complexes also displayed magnetic circular dichroism signals at room temperature. These findings provide potential for the design of multifunctional molecular magnetic materials with circular polarization of luminescence activity and magneto-optic effects.

Summary: The current study investigates the effect of disordered thickness and layer position on the optical absorption properties of a graphene-based photonic crystal in the THz frequency regime. The results show that varying the disorder strength and twisting unicells can lead to the formation of single or multiple narrow-band peaks. It is also found that highly disordered photonic structures with a single graphene layer can exhibit multiple narrow-band absorption peaks with high absorption. Additionally, twisting the dielectric layers and increasing structural disorderness can enhance the strength of single or multiple near-unity absorption peaks. The presence of magnetic fields influences the optical absorption of LCP and RCP waves, resulting in an increase in absorption peak bandwidth for LCP and a decrease for RCP.

Summary: The kidney is a complex organ that plays an important role in maintaining homeostasis. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a leading cause of end-stage renal disease and cardiovascular diseases. Single-cell sequencing, especially RNA sequencing, is a powerful technology that allows for the analysis of specific cell types, gene expression, and pathways involved in DKD. This article reviews the application of single-cell transcriptomics in DKD and highlights the key signaling pathways in specific tissues or cell types. Understanding single-cell transcriptomics will provide new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment of DKD.

Summary: Sample preparation protocols for TEM usually rely on staining agents containing heavy metals, but the toxicity and waste disposal issues of uranyl acetate have led to calls for its reduction or replacement. Low-voltage electron microscopy is a strategy for uranyless imaging. This study investigated the influence of different imaging and staining strategies on cyanobacterial cells using TEM with different accelerating voltages, as well as scanning transmission electron microscopy.

Summary: The article reports on a theoretical study of low coordination number lanthanide single-ion magnets (Ln-SIMs). The results identify the best Ln-SIMs using a concise criterion and propose several routes to improve their performance. The most efficient route is shown to be widening the axial angle, which could significantly enhance the performance of these magnets.

Summary: A simple method is proposed to reduce the density of weakly bonded oxygen debris on the surface of graphene oxide, achieved through minimal treatments such as sonication and/or water rinsing processes. This method effectively removes epoxy and hydroxyl oxygen groups weakly attached to the graphene matrix, while having little effect on the double C-O bonds.
