A novel image encryption method based on a skew tent map is proposed recently. In this paper, some flaws of this algorithm are pointed out and then a chosen plaintext attack against it is presented. Both theoretical analysis and experimental simulation indicate that the plain image can be recovered exactly from the cipher image without the secret key. So it can be seen that this algorithm is not secure enough to be applied in network communication. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
