Recently, as a novel class of persistent phosphors, Eu2+-activated phosphate persistent phosphors have received considerable attention. In this review, we focus on new reported phosphate persistent phosphors. Their wavelength maximum, trap filling source, optimal codopant, etc., are compared. Furthermore, the mechanism behind this phenomenon, including energy level scheme, the influence of codopant and concentration quenching are discussed. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
