An efficient method has been described employing FeSO4 center dot 7H(2)O as a catalyst for the synthesis of amides from methylarenes and amines (hydrochloride salts) with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as an external oxidant. Primary, secondary, and tertiary amides were synthesized in moderate to good yields. A variety of amines and methylarenes were used to investigate the scope of this process. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
