Summary: Data from a 5-year follow-up of outcomes after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair of severe mitral regurgitation in patients with heart failure demonstrate that this procedure, in addition to medical therapy, leads to lower rates of hospitalization for heart failure and all-cause mortality compared to medical therapy alone.

Summary: This study investigated the natural course of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCM) in pediatric patients, highlighting a higher risk of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in children with brain stem CCM and familial history of CCM. Over a 5-year follow-up, untreated pediatric patients had a similar risk of (re)hemorrhage compared to adults, with an increased probability over time, especially in cases with ICH or brain stem localization.

Summary: The study aims to identify prognostic variables for 5-year survival in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and propose a survival prognostic score that considers changes in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) over time. Data was collected from CRC patients through a prospective observational cohort study, including diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up at 1, 2, 3, and 5 years. HRQoL data was assessed using EQ-5D-5L, EORTC-QLQ-C30, and HADS questionnaires. Multivariate Cox proportional models were used for analysis. The results identified several predictors of mortality over the 5-year follow-up period. These findings provide insights for establishing preventive and controlling measures for long-term follow-up of CRC patients based on easily measurable variables.

Summary: This paper describes the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mexico. It found that Mexico experienced four epidemic waves with a total of 5,702,143 confirmed cases, 680,063 hospitalizations (11.9%), and 324,436 deaths (5.7%). Males had a higher risk of death and hospital admission, and severity increased with age. Comorbidities, particularly hypertension-diabetes, doubled the risk of severe illness. The health policy implemented by the Mexican government reduced hospitalizations and deaths.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the 5-year outcomes of a multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention program for children. Results showed that the intervention did not have long-term efficacy in reducing BMI standard deviation score (BMISDS), but factors such as attendance and age were important considerations for future interventions to achieve long-term BMI reduction.

Summary: The study found that low-dose antithymocyte globulin (ATG) and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF) immunotherapy can maintain C-peptide levels in some patients with type 1 diabetes over the long term, but after 5 years there were no significant differences compared to the placebo group. This emphasizes the importance of long-term follow-up in ongoing and completed phase 2 trials of low-dose ATG therapy for type 1 diabetes.

Summary: This 5-year prospective single-center follow-up study highlights the importance of strict monitoring of melanocytic lesions in high-risk patients. The study reveals that out of 60 cutaneous melanomas in two individuals, 83.3% were in situ melanomas and 16.7% were invasive melanomas with Breslow thickness up to 1.5mm. The findings emphasize the need for rigorous monitoring of high-risk patients and their families to enable early diagnosis and improved survival rates for cutaneous melanoma.

Summary: This study reviewed literature on the clinical performance and laboratory findings of fiber posts, as well as the cementation technique used with them. The analysis of 135 eligible studies found that the survival rate of fiber posts was similar to that of prefabricated and cast metal posts, with failures primarily related to retention loss. Successful results were achieved with intra-canal post lengths less than two-thirds of root length when a ferrule was present. Additionally, the presence of a ferrule increased the longevity of teeth restored with fiber posts. The use of a surface treatment protocol and adhesive cementation technique contributed to the clinical success and longevity of intra-canal posts.

Summary: This study evaluated the degree of conversion of resin luting agents phot-ocured under different high translucency zirconia shades. The opacity of the zirconia ceramic restoration and the type of resin cement used both influenced the degree of conversion. Different resin cements showed different dependence on light transmittance.
