Summary: Survival rates for melanoma have increased, leading to a higher risk of second primary melanoma. This literature review examined multiple primary melanomas and found an incidence rate ranging from 1.1% to 20.4%. Synchronous melanomas accounted for 5% to 66% of the lesions, with the trunk being the most common site. Superficial spreading melanoma was the most common histological type. The review highlights the importance of long-term surveillance for melanoma patients.

Summary: This study investigated the association between human oncoviruses and melanoma. The detection rate of oncoviruses (HPV, EBV, and herpesvirus 8DNA) was found to be higher in mucosal and ocular melanomas compared to cutaneous melanomas. This suggests that oncoviruses may act as cofactors in the development of certain types of melanoma.

Summary: There is a lack of critical evaluation of the available literature on the treatment of canine oral malignant melanoma (OMM). Surgery remains the main treatment, while adjunctive radiotherapy and immunotherapy show promise. However, most studies include confounding treatment methods, lack randomization and control groups, and have inconsistent reporting of clinical response and outcomes.

Summary: By analyzing 10 mucosal melanomas of conjunctival origin, the study found that mucosal melanomas with a predominance of UVR-associated single base substitution signature 7 (SBS7) have genomic patterns similar to cutaneous melanomas, suggesting they should not be excluded from treatments currently used for common cutaneous melanoma. While mucosal melanomas are not typically thought to be driven by UV radiation, some do present mutations characteristic of UVR exposure, indicating a potential overlap between certain mucosal and cutaneous melanomas in terms of genetic characteristics.

Summary: This study assessed the dermoscopic features of giant nodular melanomas in special locations and found some common characteristics, indicating that there may not be significant differences in dermoscopy between small and giant melanomas. However, further large-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This review summarizes the molecular features, clinical advancements, and therapeutic directions of primary mucosal melanoma (MM), a rare and heterogeneous malignancy with poor prognosis. MM differs significantly from cutaneous melanoma in terms of epidemiology, genetic profile, clinical presentation, and response to therapies. Recent omics techniques have revealed distinct genomic, molecular, and metabolic landscapes of MM lesions compared to cutaneous lesions, which explains the heterogeneity of treatment response. The specific molecular aspects of MM may help identify new biomarkers for improved diagnosis and selection of patients suitable for immunotherapy or targeted therapy.

Summary: Coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) is an abnormal dilatation of a coronary artery segment, and the definition of giant CAAs is still unclear. The prevalence of coronary aneurysms in the population ranges from 0.3% to 5%, and they are often associated with aneurysms in other sites. The etiology is often atherosclerotic, and CAAs are commonly found in the context of acute coronary syndrome. The management and prognostic relevance of CAAs are still not well understood, and there is a lack of standardized treatment options.

Summary: In this systematic literature review, 63 cases of mucosal respiratory syndrome were identified, with the majority associated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Interestingly, no cases were found to be associated with other atypical bacterial pathogens such as Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Chlamydophila psittaci, Coxiella burnetii, Francisella tularensis, or Legionella species. This highlights the need for further research into the relationship between mucosal respiratory syndrome and these potential pathogens.

Summary: This study presents a rare case of bilateral meningiomas with different malignancy grades, and investigates the protein markers involved in the progression of these tumors. The results indicate upregulation of mesenchymal markers in the higher grade meningioma, as well as changes in other protein markers and genetic testing results. The presence of two different grades in one patient elucidates previously unknown molecules involved in meningioma progression.

Summary: This study investigated the genomic profile of acral, mucosal, and vulvovaginal melanomas. The results showed significant genetic heterogeneity among these melanomas, particularly in acral melanomas which had 36% BRAF alterations. Mucosal melanomas exhibited upregulation in cell cycle and proliferation genes, which may explain their aggressive behavior. Ultraviolet radiation played a role in a subset of acral melanomas but not in other melanomas.

Summary: This study investigated the association between cancer heterogeneity and metastasis in melanoma. The COMM-SUS cells, which exhibited higher metastatic capacities, showed metabolic reprogramming and resistance to cell death induced by oxidative stress. Inhibiting lactate uptake and impairing PPP activation decreased the metastatic potential of the COMM-SUS cells.

Summary: Objective carcinosarcoma of the ovary is a rare and aggressive type of ovarian cancer. This study explored the clinicopathological features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment options for this condition. The case analysis showed that the patient underwent tumor cytoreduction and adjuvant chemotherapy, and currently has a good overall condition after a 16-month follow-up.

Summary: Background: Gastric lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is a rare type of gastric cancer associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. We present a case of gastric LELC that tested negative for EBV. Case description: A 70-year-old patient with a gastric mass was diagnosed through routine endoscopy. The patient had no symptoms and a history of hypertension. The blood tests, including EBV infection, were normal. The patient underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and surgical dissection. Conclusion: Clinicians should be aware of the rare cases of gastric LELC and further investigation is needed to understand its etiology and pathogenesis.
