Summary: This article examines whether income inequality moderates the pain gap between the rich and the poor using data from over 1 million adults in 127 countries worldwide. The study finds that income is negatively associated with pain in most countries, but an increase in income is more effective in reducing pain in countries with relatively more equal income distribution. These results hold true even when using different measures of income inequality, removing outliers, and accounting for country and year fixed effects. The study suggests that pain-reducing policies through income redistribution should consider income inequality.

Summary: The ovarian reserve declines over time, leading to infertility, and it is important to understand the mechanisms behind ovarian reserve disorders for prevention and treatment. Primary prevention, by identifying toxic influences and preventing exposure, is the most desirable mode of fertility preservation.

Summary: The study identified and described the use of electronic data tools for outbreak response in low- and middle-income countries. Multiple tools were found to be open source, capable of offline data collection and data visualisation. Key challenges included harmonisation of data tools and the need for preparedness through training front-line responders on data tools.

Summary: The adoption of climate change mitigation policies does not necessarily lead to tangible change on the ground. For successful implementation, climate policies need to be integrated with economic and social development policies, leverage opportunities for green growth, build social capital, and establish cross-ministerial institutions to govern the process.

The association between child development and corporal punishment may be driven by challenges in social-emotional development, and no positive developmental outcomes were associated with corporal punishment in any country.

Summary: This study examined transaction costs and their determinants in the sharing economy, using structural equation modeling to analyze data from 375 users of Airbnb. The findings suggest that personalization of asset specificity and transaction frequency decrease transaction costs, while learning of asset specificity and transaction uncertainty increase transaction costs, influencing behavioral intention. Perceived complementarity has a direct impact on transaction uncertainty, and the number of users moderates the relationship between transaction costs and behavioral intention. This understanding can guide managers in various industries impacted by the rapid growth of the sharing economy, providing them with strategies to address this trend.

Summary: This paper highlights the importance of opposites as an organizing principle in human thinking, showing evidence from various studies that thinking in opposites can improve reasoning skills and problem-solving abilities. By prompting individuals to think in opposites, performance in tasks can be enhanced, leading to possible benefits that warrant further systematic testing and research.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between long-term exposure to PM2.5 from different sources and under-five deaths (U5Ds) in vulnerable children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The results showed that PM2.5 from desert dust, solid biofuel combustion, and open fires had the greatest impact on child health. Public health interventions should consider the source profile of PM2.5 to effectively protect child health.

Summary: Higher plasma viremia is associated with increased dengue severity, regardless of serotype or immune status, with effect sizes being modest compared to the effects of a secondary immune response. The association remains consistent across different age, serotype, and immune status groups, indicating a potential role of plasma viremia in predicting dengue severity.

Summary: This study examined the burden of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in infants <90 days old in Blantyre, Malawi over a 14-year period and evaluated the impact of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) on vaccine-serotype IPD in this population. The results showed that vaccine serotypes 1 and 5 were the main cause of IPD in neonates and young infants, both before and after PCV13 introduction.

Summary: Individuals with biallelic TBCK pathogenic variants in infancy have distinct facial features, severe hypotonia, intellectual impairment, and epilepsy. The condition is rare and can be misdiagnosed as other neurogenetic disorders, leading to extensive investigations. Understanding the clinical phenotype helps in early monitoring of respiratory complications. We present six cases with pathogenic biallelic TBCK variants, highlighting the need for early respiratory surveillance in these individuals, especially those with periventricular leukomalacia-like changes.

Summary: Children with developmental disabilities are at high risk of poor school enrollment and educational attainment without timely and appropriate support. This paper provides evidence on the global and regional prevalence of cerebral palsy (CP) and developmental intellectual disability among children under 5 years old in 2019. The study shows that CP and intellectual disability are highly prevalent worldwide and are associated with significant years lived with disability among children under 5 years.
