Summary: This study explored the perceptions of older adults and healthcare providers in China about the transition of care from hospital to home for older patients. Barriers and facilitators in the transition of care were identified, and it was suggested that patient and family-centered care should be implemented, along with the development of information support systems, navigator roles, and healthcare reforms.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore the factors that affect the performance of oral health care for older people receiving nursing care at home. Through interviews and analysis of home health care providers, the study found that individual, organizational, and communication factors between providers and public dental services can influence the provision of oral health care. This research provides valuable insights to improve oral health care services for older people in home health care.

Summary: The study identified potentially pathogenic microorganisms in oral specimens of older people and found that professional oral care can reduce the risk of aspiration pneumonia. Microorganisms such as Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were associated with mortality due to aspiration pneumonia. Additionally, isolation of Escherichia coli, a gut bacterium, was also reported.

Summary: This study investigated home care aides' oral health care experience, knowledge, and their intention to receive professional training. The factors predicting HCAs' intention to receive oral health care training were analyzed using a decision tree model. Recommendations were made to enhance oral healthcare training for HCAs by including disease-related content, safety protection, assessment, and usage of oral care tools in the course.

Summary: Older German individuals in need of care show high prevalence of oral diseases, risk of malnutrition, but nearly unimpaired oral health-related quality of life. Dental care should be emphasized in these individuals, with oral health-related quality of life possibly indicating increased risk of malnutrition.

Summary: This study highlights the uncertainty of community nurses in providing oral healthcare to older adults at home. Emphasizing comprehensive and continuous oral health education can enhance nurses' confidence in supporting patients. Interprofessional collaboration and clear role definitions with oral health professionals are crucial for improving oral health outcomes in this vulnerable population.

Summary: Despite growing concerns about health inequality, significant disparities in health and life expectancy persist both within and between OECD countries. While equal access to healthcare can help reduce social differences in health, research shows that older people at the lower end of the social spectrum face more difficulty accessing healthcare services. This study examines social inequality in access to universal healthcare for older people in Oslo, using Bourdieu's theory of practice as a framework, and identifies 15 unique care trajectories from hospital to home via intermediate care.

Summary: Home care nurses play a crucial role in managing medication for older people, with a preference for automated systems. However, the lack of a common journal system among health care providers and continued use of analogue communication can lead to outdated prescription of medications for patients. There is potential for further research exploring how technology can aid home care nurses in coordinating medication management tasks and receiving updates on medication intake from older patients when not at their homes.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an Oral Care Program on home care nurses' attitudes and knowledge, as well as on the oral health of older people. The program significantly improved the oral health of older people, particularly those with full dentures. It also improved the knowledge and attitude of home care nurses, fitting well with their daily work routines. Individual-centered care plans for older people, education of home care nurses, and the expertise of dental hygienists added value to home care nursing.

Summary: To improve the PRN medication management for older people with long-term health conditions in their own home, individualized care plans are needed to reduce dependence on PRN medications, empower family caregivers, and provide support from healthcare professionals. Deprescription and discontinuation strategies should be utilized to reduce PRN medication use, while non-pharmacologic methods should be encouraged for managing physical and psychological problems. Family caregivers should be empowered through role development, education, training, and involvement in decision-making, with support from a multidisciplinary network for supervision, monitoring, and home visits.

Summary: Salivary stones are calcified structures in the ductal system of salivary glands. The study analyzed the protein composition of submandibular sialoliths and found that proteins, including alpha-amylase, lysozyme, lactoferrin, secretory-IgA, etc., contribute to the formation of sialoliths. The increasing size of a sialolith may cause local inflammation, and lactoferrin may play a new pathophysiological role in the process.

Summary: This paper discusses the historical recommendations on mandibular third molar removal from various authoritative institutions and the controversy surrounding this surgical procedure. It also explores the influences of third molar management in the UK, economic evaluations, and the available evidence on tooth removal versus retention. The article highlights the concerns regarding increasing distal surface caries in mandibular second molars associated with asymptomatic, partially erupted third molars and how guidelines based on insufficient evidence have been applied in clinical practice for over 20 years.

Summary: This survey aimed to explore dentists' knowledge about oral mucosal lesions (OMLs). The results show that dentists in the Netherlands do not have sufficient knowledge to accurately diagnose and manage some OMLs, leading to over-referral of benign OMLs and under-referral for potentially malignant OMLs. Clinical guidelines and continuing education may improve dentists' ability to correctly diagnose and manage OMLs.
