Summary: This survey aimed to evaluate the current status of global laboratory quality systems and assess the need for implementation, expansion, or harmonization of EQA programs for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. The results showed that globally, most laboratories participate in an EQAP and have defined quality procedures for EQA, but there are still gaps in EQA material availability and implementation.

Summary: The study assessed the quality of working life (QWL) of medical doctors in public hospitals in China and identified the associated risk factors. The results showed that the overall QWL score was low, which was related to high workloads, low rewards, and workplace violence. Regional differences were also found, with the eastern developed region having better QWL. The study highlights the need for addressing occupational health and safety challenges in public hospitals in China.

Summary: According to a survey conducted by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), there is significant variation in internal quality control (IQC) practices and management worldwide. While 78.3% of countries have regulations or accreditation requirements for medical laboratory quality standards, they are not mandatory in 46.7% of these countries. This highlights the need for standardized programs and education to improve overall quality management in medical laboratories.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the association between having an inflexible job and health-related quality of life and healthcare utilization, and to explore heterogeneity in the effects by gender, age, and area-level deprivation. The results showed that job inflexibility was associated with lower health-related quality of life, particularly for women and older or more deprived employees. Having an inflexible job was also linked to a longer time since the last visit to a general practitioner.

Summary: This study compared the global health, mental health impact of work stressors, and psychosocial perception of healthcare workers (HCWs) and non-HCWs in a hospital after the first peak of the COVID-19 outbreak in France. The results showed that HCWs were more likely to experience negative effects of work stressors and have negative perception of the work environment. This study emphasizes the need for risk management.

Summary: The study aimed to determine characteristics of eye injuries, medical costs, and return-to-work status among industrial workers in Malaysia. A total of 884 workplace accidents involving eye injury were identified, with the highest incidence in the 30-39 age group and among Malay ethnics. Males were more affected than females, and a significant relationship was found between severity of eye injury and employee work status. Indirect medical and vision rehabilitation costs were higher than direct costs.

Summary: Medical students globally support the incorporation of artificial intelligence teaching into their curriculum, but few have received such education. They have knowledge on the applications of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine and are interested in learning about clinical applications, algorithm development, coding, and algorithm appraisal. Hackathon-style projects and multidisciplinary education involving computer science students were suggested for incorporation into the curriculum.
