Summary: This study aimed to determine the inter-relationships between five first-trimester biomarkers and a range of adverse pregnancy outcomes. The results showed that these biomarkers were associated with fetal growth restriction, preterm birth, and preeclampsia, indicating heterogeneity in the underlying pathophysiological pathways for different types of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: During pregnancy, the maternal host undergoes adaptations to protect the fetus and minimize risk to the mother. The immune system, particularly the complement system, plays a crucial role in protecting the semi-allogenic fetoplacental unit from attack while maintaining maternal protection against infection.

Summary: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is associated with placental dysfunctional disorders, with women with RPL having a higher risk during pregnancy and requiring improved antenatal surveillance.

Summary: Research has shown that individuals of lower socioeconomic status are more susceptible to life stress, but not all of them experience immense stress. Coping flexibility was found to be a psychological mechanism underlying the positive association between social capital and health for lower SES individuals, while active coping was identified as the mechanism for higher SES individuals. The dual process model proposed in the study received robust empirical support in samples from Hong Kong and Indonesia.

Summary: Maternal hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, especially pre-eclampsia, are associated with increased risks of ADHD, ASD, and ID in offspring. The timing and severity of pre-eclampsia play a significant role in these associations, with early-onset and severe cases showing the strongest links. These associations remain consistent across various subgroups and are independent of shared familial factors.

Summary: This study found that both in utero exposure to HDP and maternal chronic hypertension are independently associated with an increased risk of chronic hypertension in offspring. When both risk factors are present, there is a 2.4-fold increase in the risk of hypertension in offspring.

Summary: This study evaluated the association of maternal serum biomarkers with adverse maternal outcomes in women with severe pre-eclampsia. Although endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress biomarkers were associated with the development of pre-eclampsia, their utility in identifying women at risk of adverse outcomes may be limited.

Summary: Lower levels of regulatory T cells in maternal peripheral blood during pregnancy are associated with pre-eclampsia, while further research is needed to confirm the relationship between low Tregs and preterm birth. The precise mechanisms by which Tregs may mediate pre-eclampsia and PTB remain unclear, highlighting the need for additional fundamental research in this area.

Summary: Women with endometriosis are at increased risk of gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, placenta previa, placental abruption, cesarean section, and stillbirth during pregnancy. Some studies suggest a potential association between endometriosis and spontaneous hemoperitoneum and bowel perforation in pregnancy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of flow velocity waveforms in the spiral arteries (SA) and intravillous fetal arterioles (IVA) measured using superb microvascular imaging (SMI) technology for fetal growth restriction (FGR), gestational hypertension (GH), and/or pre-eclampsia (PE). The study found that in uncomplicated pregnancies, the SA-RI decreased progressively with advancing gestation, while the IVA-RI increased. In the third trimester, the mean SA-RI and IVA-RI values were significantly higher in the FGR group and PE group, respectively. SA-RI was significantly higher in pregnancies with adverse outcomes compared to uncomplicated pregnancies. The areas under the receiver-operating-characteristics curves (AUC) for SA-RI and IVA-RI in screening for FGR were moderate.

Summary: The study found that a broad definition of pre-eclampsia better identifies women who develop adverse pregnancy outcomes compared to a restrictive definition. Including fetal-placental manifestations in the broad definition can improve sensitivity.

Summary: This paper discusses the global migration patterns of Muslims from Muslim-majority countries. The findings reveal two patterns of Muslim migration, with differences in flow between Muslim-majority and non-Muslim-majority countries. Additionally, the characteristics of the receiving country have less influence on Muslim migration flow compared to the characteristics of the sending country.

Summary: The study discusses the importance of resilience in small island economies and explores the method of using the Adaptive Cycle Model and Markov Switching Autoregressive Model to analyze tourism destination resilience. Findings reveal opportunities for transformation and regeneration in Barbados and Grenada's tourism industries, with differences in resilience capability attributed to management deficiencies, inadequate stakeholder cohesion, and lack of innovation.
