Summary: The study found that compared to medical therapy, bariatric surgery resulted in significant improvements in quality of life for patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes at 12 months. This improvement may be attributed to better weight and metabolic outcomes as well as changes in gut-brain axis communication.

Summary: The incidence of remission of type 2 diabetes is generally low in routine care settings, but it may be a reasonable goal for patients who lose a significant amount of weight shortly after diagnosis. Factors associated with higher odds of remission include shorter duration of diagnosis, non-prescription of glucose-lowering medication, lower HbA(1c) and BMI levels, White ethnicity, female sex, and lower socioeconomic deprivation.

Summary: This study examined the impact of two types of bariatric surgery, SR-RYGB and SG, on psychological health and the influence of pre-existing depressive symptoms on weight loss. The results showed that both surgery types led to similar improvements in psychological health, but SR-RYGB resulted in greater weight loss after 5 years. Patients with pre-existing depressive symptoms achieved similar weight loss as those without symptoms, regardless of the surgery type. These findings confirm the previous research on the positive effects of bariatric surgery on psychosocial functioning.

Summary: Urticaria is a condition characterized by itchy wheals and angioedema. The pathophysiology of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is not well understood, but there are immunological and non-immunological abnormalities that result in clinical symptoms. Latest hypotheses suggest that Mast cells (MCs) activated by autoantibodies mediate the vasoactive and neurospecific effect in CSU. Psychological stress is seen as a triggering and modulating factor in CSU, but the mechanistic background is not fully elucidated. This review highlights the neuro-immuno-psychological aspects of CSU, suggesting the use of psychological tools and non-invasive interventions to reduce psychological stress.

Summary: In order to promote the development of high-quality professional basketball referees in China, the relationship between their coping styles and mood states during the game was explored, and the contributions of psychological resilience and frustration tolerance to this relationship were assessed. The results showed that coping style significantly predicted psychological resilience, frustration tolerance, and mood state of the referees. Increasing the psychological indicators related to coping styles and psychological resilience can improve the emotional fluctuations and judgment accuracy of high-level basketball referees during unexpected events on the court.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the factors that affect psychological function following bariatric surgery. The results showed that patients with lower expectations of weight loss, higher educational level, no history of psychiatric illness, and employment before surgery had higher psychological function scores. Additionally, more weight loss after 1 to 2 years post-surgery was associated with higher psychological function scores.

Summary: Obesity is a major public health crisis, and bariatric surgery has become an important tool in addressing it and related conditions. While BS techniques have improved, there is no precise way to predict who will benefit the most. Understanding adipose tissue characteristics and other factors may help in identifying patients who will receive the greatest benefit.
