Summary: This study aimed to predict dropouts and treatment outcomes in inpatient pediatric obesity treatment by analyzing pre-treatment patient characteristics, cardiometabolic comorbidities, leptin, and adiponectin levels. The study found that higher BMI and more comorbidities predicted less reduction in BMI standard deviation score (SDS) during treatment. The study also reported that pre-treatment leptin and adiponectin levels predicted post-treatment BMI SDS regain.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the dropout rate at 2, 6, and 12 months after an inpatient multidisciplinary residential program (MRP) for the treatment of obesity. The results showed an increasing dropout rate over time, and a correlation between higher BMI and percentage of fat mass lost with dropout risk.

Summary: In this study, long-term weight loss with exenatide treatment was similar to that achieved with a hypocaloric diet in a population of early high responders. Weight loss at 3 months of treatment predicted super responder status in both treatment groups, with individual variability observed in weight loss outcomes.

Summary: Early dropout and treatment adherence are major challenges in the treatment of children with obesity. This study aims to identify factors associated with attrition and adherence. Male sex, low parental education, and self-referral to the clinic were correlated with dropout, while older age and the mother's healthy lifestyle were correlated with adherence. Sex, parental education, and referral source may predict treatment attrition. Early recognition of children at risk of attrition may help improve their care.

Summary: Comparing two 6-month personalized MT protocols, the study found that the intervention groups incorporating messaging reminders and regular visits outperformed the control group receiving standard treatment in terms of various parameters. The results suggest that the hybrid approach of personalized messaging and monthly recall visits could enhance the outcomes of MT weight loss intervention programs.

Summary: This study compared the outcome of a standard lifestyle intervention (SLI) to phenotype-tailored lifestyle interventions (PLI) for weight loss, cardiometabolic risk factors, and physiological variables contributing to obesity. The results showed that phenotype-tailored lifestyle interventions led to significant weight loss compared to standard interventions.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a hypocaloric diet under hospitalization in obese patients. The results showed that the diet led to weight reduction and improvements in blood biochemistry parameters, while not affecting muscle mass, liver, and thyroid profiles. Lower insulin levels and higher serum calcium and potassium levels were predictors of weight loss.

Summary: This narrative review summarizes the existing research on the clinical impact of a Mediterranean diet before and after bariatric surgery, focusing on its effects on weight loss and improvement in comorbidities. Although the current knowledge is limited, the findings suggest that adopting a Mediterranean diet before and after bariatric surgery is of significant value.

Summary: This study aimed to identify determinants of completion and early dropout in National Health Service (NHS) weight management interventions (WMIs). The results showed that engagement in support sessions, male sex, osteoarthritis, and missed intervention appointments were associated with increased completion rates. Participants with anxiety and depression were more likely to drop out early. The study highlights the importance of support and the consideration of participants' support networks in WMIs.

Summary: The number of obese people is increasing worldwide due to high-fat diets causing excess energy intake. A 12-week dietary intervention study on high-fat diet-induced obese mice showed that changing the diet significantly reduced weight gain and subcutaneous adipose tissue weight. Diet change also affected lipolysis, lipogenesis, and the proportion of adipocyte stem cells in different fat tissues.

Summary: The DIETFITS trial demonstrated that meaningful weight loss can be achieved with either a healthy low-carbohydrate diet or healthy low-fat diet. However, the factors mediating weight loss remain unclear due to the substantial decrease in glycemic load in both diets.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of two isocaloric 24-week weight maintenance diets on metabolism and identified metabolite features associated with successful weight loss maintenance. It was found that the dietary fiber, protein, and fat content of the diet influenced amino acid and lipid metabolism, and increased abundance of certain phospholipids and free fatty acids was associated with better weight loss maintenance.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the weight management strategies used by Australian adults, their socio-demographic characteristics, and their association with 12-month weight change. The results showed that most participants used at least one weight management strategy, with exercise/physical activity being the most common. Being physically active was associated with greater weight loss, while accepting current bodyweight was linked to a lower likelihood of using weight management strategies. The use of supplements and fasting were associated with poorer mental health and quality of life outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of a 12-week online supervised training program on cardiac morphology, function, and blood pressure in children with obesity. The training program resulted in significant reductions in blood pressure parameters and detected changes in cardiac morphology. Physical activity plays a decisive role in improving blood pressure control and left ventricle systolic function, representing a strategic approach to limit cardiovascular risk.

Summary: A study was conducted to investigate the prevalence, outcomes, and impact of COVID-19 in patients with a rare disease, such as Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), in the Italian population. The study found that out of 605 survey responses, 107 cases of COVID-19 were reported. Most patients had a mild course of the disease, with only eight cases requiring hospitalization and no fatal outcomes. There was no significant difference in infection risk and outcomes between HHT patients and the general population, and COVID-19 did not significantly affect HHT-related bleeding.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the role of cognitive evaluation in predicting phenoconversion in patients with polysomnography-confirmed idiopathic or isolated rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder. A scoping review was conducted, and 20 selected studies were analyzed. The results showed that cognitive evaluation played an important role in predicting phenoconversion, but there were methodological differences among the studies, indicating the need for a standardized framework for acquiring and presenting neuropsychological data.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of subchondroplasty (SCP) in patients with symptomatic knee bone marrow lesions (BMLs). The results showed that more than half of the patients achieved a reduction in pain after SCP, and functional scores also improved. Summary: This retrospective observational study evaluated the efficacy of oral propranolol in 44 patients with infantile hemangiomas. The study found that 90.7% of cases achieved complete remission with a mean improvement in severity of 94.94%. Propranolol showed high efficacy in terms of safety profile and cosmetic results. Prematurity and precocious therapy may be associated with a better response.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic delay and risk factors of symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD). The study found that 25% of patients were misdiagnosed as having irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and previous misdiagnosis was a significant risk factor for overall and physician-dependant diagnostic delay. A high educational level was associated with a longer overall diagnostic delay, while previous abdominal surgery was associated with reduced physician-dependant diagnostic delay.

Summary: Specific learning disorders (SLDs) are the most frequently diagnosed developmental disorders in childhood. This study assessed the prevalence of SLD in pediatric patients with obesity and found that SLD was more common in patients with obesity, particularly in males. SLD was associated with low birth weight and limited social skills during development. The study also found a higher prevalence of family history of neuropsychiatric disorders and higher fasting glucose levels in patients with obesity and SLD.
