A new Cd(II) coordination polymer, namely [Cd(Hbci)](n) (1 H(3)bci = bis(2-carboxyethyl)isocyanurate), has been synthesized by the reactions of Cd(II) ions with H3bci under hydrothermal conditions. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that 1 features a two-dimensional (2D) layer framework with (3,6)-connected kgd topology. In addition, the luminescent properties of 1 were also investigated in the solid state at room temperature.
